Plant Manager directs a plant or production facility's overall operations. Sets and implements policies and procedures that guide plant operations' productivity, quality, and cost efficiency. Being a Plant Manager utilizes operational metrics to analyze productivity and set performance targets to achieve production goals. Develops and deploys manufacturing practices focused on quality and continuous improvement. Additionally, Plant Manager develops and implements plant safety and security inspections, auditing, and training procedures to meet OSHA and other required regulations. Collaborates with multi-functional plant teams, including finance, engineering, materials, quality assurance, and human resources. Leads or participates in labor relations negotiations and engages with union leadership involving plant operations. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in manufacturing engineering or equivalent. Typically reports to senior management. The Plant Manager manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Plant Manager typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     REPORTS TO:Plant Manager

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • The Assistant Plant Manager supports the Plant Manager in directing: safety activities; quality processes; manufacturing activities; inbound movements of raw material, outbound finished goods distribution, maintenance, and supervision and operations for the Plant.
    • Leads all departments in the plant with department managers or supervisors to maintain safety, quality, service and efficient production.
    • Is responsible for promoting and fostering a culture of excellence in all activities for safety, service, quality, and production.
    • Coordinates production, distribution, warehousing and manufacturing in accordance with policies, principles, and established procedures.
    • Develops and implements plans for efficient use of materials, machines, and employees.
    • Reviews production costs and product quality, and modifies production and inventory control programs to maintain and enhance profitable operation of plant.
    • Directs preparation of production, human resources and labor/costs records.
    • Recommends budgets to management.
    • Maintains positive working relationship with sales management and customer service functions in the division.
    • Systematically reviews financial performance of the plant to assess and take action for optimizing sales growth and cost savings.
    • Coordinates plant safety, environmental and training activities in cooperation with the Human Resources Department and the Division Safety Manager.
    • Comply with company policies and procedures.
    • Additional duties as assigned by management.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Manages subordinate managers and/or supervisors who in turn supervise all plant employees. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the plant. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    High school diploma or GED plus college and/or appropriate technical courses

    Five years experience as a proven manager

    3 to 5 years packaging manufacturing or manufacturing experience

    Candidates arePREFERREDwho offer the following: College degree

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees, managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    Ability to work with mathematical concepts and ease of numbers.

    REASONING ABILITY

    Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in written and in a diagram form.

    TECHNICAL SKILLS

    The individual must have a working knowledge of the following:

    • Equipment design and capabilities that can be translated into efficient operation. This also supports the supervisor's role of teacher and trainer for his/her personnel.
    • Cost issues in order to make daily decisions that will reduce overall costs and will help the supervisor find areas that require improvement.
    • Budget development, adherence and analysis.
    • Quality standards.
    • Regulatory requirements including but not limited to wage and hour requirements, environmental and waste minimization, company policies, and personnel requirements including OSHA, DEQ and EEO.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee should be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

    • Professional appearance to support his/her role as a managerial representative of the company.
