Plant Operations Manager oversees the daily operational activities of a plant or production facility. Develops and manages production schedules to meet internal volume, cost, and quality goals. Being a Plant Operations Manager utilizes operational metrics to analyze productivity, identify issues, and set performance targets to achieve production goals. Implements plant safety and security inspections, auditing, and training procedures to meet OSHA and other required regulations. Additionally, Plant Operations Manager oversees staffing and development of all production supervisors and staff and facilitates labor relations. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in manufacturing engineering or equivalent. Typically reports to a director. The Plant Operations Manager typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. The Plant Environmental Manager oversees and manages environmental and sustainability issues at the facility, including compliance with all applicable permits, environmental rules and regulations, continued conformance with ISO 14001 requirements and ensuring the facility achieves sustainability goals relative to water savings, energy savings and zero landfill. Helps facility to resolve environmental issues. Responsible for the assigned areas of the Maintenance team, wastewater, and the supervision of those employees. Responsibilities As necessary, writes and revises the following plans: Emergency Response (in tandem with Safety department), Chemical Approval Handling & Management, SPCC, SW3P, Lead based Paint Operations, Air Compliance/Air Permits, Water Conservation, Waste Minimization, Wetland Mitigation and Destruction Prevention, Hazardous Material Security Plan. Schedules regulatory and external party audits with the facility to ensure compliance and promote relations with the community and other parties. Follows Smithfield company policies and report non-compliance within the facility to appropriate individuals for correction and or re-training. Assists Facility Environmental Coordinators with environmental compliance issues including wastewater permitting, air permitting and storm water permitting. Includes report preparation and permit applications. Performs facility water, energy and waste management reviews, project scope development, and project management Responsible for the Environmental Management Systems which ensures that ISO 14001 certification is maintained and the facility remains in compliance. Performs internal EMS Audits. Maintains all required ISO records & documents Follows procedure guidance and keeps procedures updated Meets with ISO Teams Monthly Reviews Plant Status Reviews ISO Projects and Progress towards Objectives Maintains data and tracks plant performance Reviews Corrective Action Requests (when applicable) Ensures ISO System is always “audit ready” Prepares Tier II Reports, Form R Reports, Stormwater, Air Permit, Oil Tank Inspections, Annual Waste Report as well as “Other Requirements” listed in WEBEMS Monitoring Section Conducts all appropriate training for ISO related matters. To include Pure Safety, SPCC, Universal Waste and ISO Awareness. Ensures annual emergency drills occur and are documented in Form 6-1, Hazardous Waste Responsible for water quality; both at the water and wastewater treatment plants. Confirms adherence to the same water quality standards as any public water supply within the state as our finished product serves both our production operations and our work force’s domestic needs while on address. Responsible for potable water quality at the wells and wastewater treatment plant, ensuring water discharged to the river meets regulatory compliance. Maintains compliance with all regulatory requirements and record retention in the EMS (Environmental Management System). Confirms that physical, chemical and biological treatments are conducted to ensure the effluent water has been adequately treated and is of acceptable quality per State & Federal EPA regulations in order to be discharged to the city or stream. Leads Monthly EMS Team Meetings. Supervises and provides leadership to the Maintenance personnel and waste water Operators on a daily basis. Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Environmental related field and 5 years relevant progressive experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, required. 2 years of demonstrated experience in team management/development or project leadership is required Experience in water and wastewater treatment, preferably in a large industrial facility, required. Previous experience or training with air permit requirements, EPCRA reporting (SARA 312 Tier II, Form R's), land application of wastewater bio solids is required. Previous experience with Process Safety Management (PSM) programs, preferred. Requires a working knowledge of Microsoft Office's Word and Excel. Ability to work with, and lead, a diverse workforce. Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills. Capable of communicating and expressing ideas clearly and concisely, in both written and verbal formats. High level of organizational planning, teamwork, analytical reasoning, and adaptability. Must be able to travel 5-10% of the time and work nights & weekends. Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment. Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment. Supervisory Responsibilities Provides leadership and guidance to wastewater employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and assisting in providing appropriate resolutions.
