Plant Superintendent supervises and coordinates workers' activities in all phases of plant operations. Develops and manages production and maintenance schedules to meet internal volume, cost, and quality goals. Being a Plant Superintendent utilizes operational metrics to analyze productivity, identify issues, and achieve production goals. Troubleshoots operational, materials, equipment, and staffing problems and coordinates solutions. Additionally, Plant Superintendent implements plant safety and security inspections, auditing, and training procedures to meet OSHA and other required regulations. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in manufacturing engineering or equivalent. Typically reports to a director. The Plant Superintendent manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Northshore Mining Company - Cleveland-Cliffs is seeking Plant Operations Technicians. The primary function of this position is to operate and maintain all plant equipment associated with the production of taconite pellets in a self-directed work environment.
Summary of Responsibilities:
Replacing idlers and scrapers
Replacing oil pumps
Chute repairs
Minor Plumbing
Cutting & welding
Repairing cyclones and pan feeders
Belt replacement
Minor pipefitting
Conveyor alignment
General clean up
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum of a 2-year post-secondary degree or 4-year post-secondary degree, OR 4-year apprenticeship in related work, OR 4-years full-time military history with directly related work experience (Part-time military only considered if candidate has at least 2 years of full-time deployment with work experience applicable to position), OR 2 years of directly related full-time work experience. 2-year post-secondarydegrees in mining industrial technology, electrical, industrial, mechanical, maintenance, heavy equipment maintenance is preferred.
Must be able to recognize upset conditions, determine cause, and then take corrective action.
Must be flexible with work assignments; will assist other departments as needed and required.
Must have an exceptional work ethic, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and be able to work in a self-directed team environment.
Must be willing to work rotating shifts.
Must meet the physical requirements of the position.
Preferred Qualifications:
Work experience in an industrial environment is preferred.
Excellent safety record and genuine concern for safety in the workplace.

Proven mechanical aptitude.
