    Title:    Project Superintendent                                             

    Reports To:     General Superintendent                                                                       


    POSITION SUMMARY

    This position is accountable for providing project support to Scott Bridge Company, Inc.  The Project Superintendent reports to the General Superintendent and directs field activities through the General Foreman and/or Foreman who report to this position.  Typically, this individual will work closely with General Superintendent, General Foreman, Project (Field) Engineer, Safety Representative, Boat Captain, Pile Drivers, Welders, Carpenters, Helpers, Laborers and other skilled or semi-skilled craft workers on the work site.


    SPECIFIC RESPONSIBLITIES

    • Works as assigned by the General Superintendent to plan and execute construction projects and ensure their successful completion.
    • Coordinates project objectives and plans with General Foreman and/or Foreman, and subcontractors as may be required, prior to actual construction.
    • Works with members of the project team to secure the equipment necessary for the project to be completed.
    • Attends pre-construction meetings to monitor the project status and obtain a grasp of the job scope and time schedule.
    • Reviews the job schedule and cost breakdown and meets with the Project Manager to gain a complete understanding of potential challenges and problems prior to beginning the job.
    • Maintains good working relationship with the Project Manager seeking his/her assistance in the scheduling of materials, equipment and subcontractors.
    • Sets up the job office and equipment trailers, if required, and sees that permits, labor notices, safety rules, HR policies, and EEOC materials are posted in a conspicuous place.
    • Works with the Human Resources Coordinator to identify and recruit qualified applicants for all craft openings that are required to adequately staff the project.
    • Communicates with the General Superintendent or Project Manager daily to update him/her on project status.
    • Maintains inventory control over tools and equipment making sure that moveable tools are returned to the tool room and all other equipment adequately stored.
    • Works with the General Foreman and/or Foreman to ensure that safety barricades and signs are in the proper place, as may be required by the job.
    • Troubleshoots and problem solves as required on construction issues and problems that arise.
    • Ensures that all change orders are properly executed as directed by the Project Manager or General Superintendent.
    • Meets regularly with General Foreman and/or Foreman to make certain that construction project deadlines are being met and that project work is completed on time.
    • Inspects the project work for quality of workmanship to ensure that Company standards and government regulations are met.
    • Attends the weekly Project Manager meetings to discuss job progress and any problems that are currently being encountered.
    • Monitors project work expenditures versus projected costs for materials and supplies that are purchased and that project expenditures are under budget.
    • Coordinates maintenance of heavy equipment on the project and supervises effective utilization.
    • Performs periodic inspections of the jobsites to ensure that standardized construction procedures are followed.
    • Meets with and assists inspectors or auditors on their scheduled or unscheduled visits to the jobsite.
    • Works with General Foreman and/or Foreman to ensure that employees comply with Scott Bridge Company, Inc. Policies and Procedures and as well as EEOC and other regulatory guidelines.
    • Holds all employees at the jobsite accountable for complying with Scott Bridge Company, Inc. Safety/Operational Policies and mandated regulatory guidelines and demonstrating safe work practices at the jobsite.
    • Sees to it that good housekeeping practices are observed and maintained and that any potential safety hazard is corrected.
    • Ensures that the project site is secured after work hours each and that appropriate security measure are in place.
    • Ensures that new employees receive safety training and, as required, job specific training prior to beginning their field assignments.
    • Updates the Project Manager regularly on estimated percent completion on each phase of the project.
    • Works closely with the General Superintendent, Barge Foreman, Crane Operators, Welders, Helpers, Laborers and other skilled and semi-skilled crafts persons to complete current projects in a safe and environmentally sound manner.
    • Participates in Safety and Environmental initiatives that will contribute to compliance of State/Federal regulations and improve existing Company programs.


    POSITION REQUIREMENTS

    A minimum of eight (8) years construction experience or equivalent experience in a supervisory capacity.  Incumbents must be well-versed in receiving and handling of equipment used for construction operations.  In addition, incumbents must have knowledge of the integration of various crafts to successfully perform their work.  Craft knowledge should include pile driving, crane operations, welding, carpentry, sandblasting, pipefitting, painting and related areas.  Incumbents should also possess previous supervisory experience and be certified in First Aid and CPR.

    The incumbent must also:

    1. Be well organized in order to effectively oversee several projects simultaneously
    2. Be able to hold Foreman and their crews accountable for work performance excellence
    3. Have foresight to avoid potential problems before they arise
    4. Have a conscientious attitude towards controlling job costs and adhering to project schedules
    5. Be able to influence and motivate Foreman and members of their project teams
    6. Possess excellent communications skills.


     PHYISCAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

    The incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.

    The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required.  This includes hard hat, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, personal flotation devices, or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done.

    In addition, Project Superintendent must also be capable of:

    • Adapting to extreme temperature changes
    • Adapting to outdoor conditions and prolonged exposures
    • Remaining calm during emergencies and respond appropriately as dictated by the circumstances of the incident.
