Compensation: $35 - $43/hr
Job Summary:
PIC Group’s client has an excellent opportunity for a Maintenance Shop Superintendent for a hydroelectric power plant in Dexter, NY. Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Maintenance Shop Superintendent oversees the daily operations of the machine shop and coordinates the activities of machinists to ensure efficient production, repair, and maintenance of equipment crucial to the power generation process. The Maintenance Shop Superintendent provides leadership, technical expertise, and effective communication to uphold safety standards, meet production targets, and support plant operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise, train, and evaluate the performance of the machinists and other machine shop staff
- Assign and prioritize work orders and projects to the machinists and monitor their progress and quality
- Implement and enforce safety regulations and standards in the machine shop and ensure compliance with all applicable codes and regulations
- Troubleshoot and resolve any technical or operational issues that arise in the machine shop
- Maintain and update records and reports of machine shop activities, inventory, equipment, and budget
- Communicate and collaborate with other foremen, engineers, managers, and contractors to ensure the alignment of the machine shop’s goals and objectives with the plant’s needs and expectations
- Provide technical guidance and support to the machinists and other staff as needed
Job Requirements:
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of machining and machine shop management
- Knowledge of the safety procedures and regulations for working with machines and electricity
- Knowledge of the hydroelectric power plant equipment and operations
- Skill in using and programming manual or automated machines and tools
- Skill in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings
- Skill in performing accurate measurements and calculations
- Skill in problem-solving and troubleshooting
- Skill in leadership, communication, and teamwork
- Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate multiple tasks and projects
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Lift and move heavy objects and materials, weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for operating machinery and handling tools.
- Tolerance for exposure to noise, vibrations, dust, and chemicals commonly found in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights, as necessary.
Education / Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of a vocational training or an apprenticeship program in machining or a related field
- 5 years of experience as a machinist in an industrial setting
- 2 years of experience as a machine shop foreman or superintendent
- Experience in working with hydroelectric power plant equipment is preferred.

Compensation Range: $35 - $43 per hour
