The Company:
Family owned and operated athletic business in Massachusetts is looking for a dependable, long-term employee to oversees the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and administration of the Aquatics Department, which consists of the Indoor Pool, Hot Tub, Outdoor Pool, and Outdoor Kiddie Pool. This individual Oversees the hiring, training, testing, and certification of staff and develops and implements a variety of dynamic aquatic programs that will engage current members and attract future members. Manages all swim lessons and ensures that all appropriate water health and safety standards are maintained.
- Essential Functions
- The Aquatics Director is responsible for the establishing and maintaining the safest and high functioning level of the aquatic department.
- Will supervise the day-to-day activities of staff and custodial employees with regards to each body of water.
- Will oversee and coordinate the administration of each body of water on our campus
- Oversee the maintenance of each body of water, to include chemistry, climate control, cleanliness, and related maintenance.
- Ensures that all appropriate water, environmental, health and safety standards are maintained; ensures pools are compliant with all local, state and national requirements and current on all necessary certifications required for operation.
- Develops, implements, and oversees a variety of dynamic aquatics programs for members and guests
- Coordinates and/or leads aquatic and safety certification training sessions, as necessary.
- Participates in the development of annual operating budgets and provides fiscal direction for the department
- Develops and maintains records of operational facility usage; monitors and maintains inventories of pool equipment and supplies.
- Prepares statistical reports on a monthly basis and prepares data and narrative for inclusion in annual reports.
- Represents the organization at various community and/or business meetings, committees, and task forces; promotes existing and new programs and/or policies.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
- Ensures national quality standards are met or exceeded in all program areas
- Directly supervises the Lifeguards and Swim Instructors
- Oversees pool and staff schedules
- Plans and implements aquatic emergency drills
- Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates all Aquatics staff in a consistent and timely manner
- Observes Swim Instructors to assure program quality on a regular schedule
- Maintains/grows current working knowledge of programs
- Instructs lessons or lifeguards, as needed
- Communicates with members/parents regarding concerns, changes, credits, or transfers in a professional manner
- Develops new programs to ensure that programs reflect the needs of the community
- Responsible for regular inspection of equipment, and communicates immediately when repairs are needed
- Monitors phone calls, e-mails, and return messages within 24 hours
- Oversees all water Group Exercise programs
- Assists in hiring Water GE instructors
- Submits bi-weekly payroll to GE Director
- Assists with water-based GE schedule
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree (BA) from a four-year college or university
- Prior Aquatics management experience (at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified)
- Certification/Licensure/American Red Cross Lifeguard/Instructor Certification National Swimming Pool Foundation/Certified Pool Operator Certification
- Strong relationship building skills and supervisory skills
- Well organized
- Experience with budget management
- Prior Lifeguard and/or Swim Instructor experience
- Ability to problem-solve in situations where only limited standardization exists
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
- Maintain current certification
- First Aid and CPR Certificate
Conditions of Employment
- Must maintain certification status.
- Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
- Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
- Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $20,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
