TITLE: RD & Marketing Director

REPORTS TO: Executive Director/CPO
TYPICAL WORK SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday, Hours vary between 7:30am and 7pm
Occasional nights and weekends with proper notice
Primary Purpose
The RD & Marketing Director Supports the Executive Director/CPO and board to plan and execute resource development strategies and monitor progress toward goals. He/she also works to cultivate and solicit major gifts and grants from individuals, corporations, foundations, government agencies and others and is responsible for providing leadership and direction their marketing and development team members, as needed, in their role of supporting the resource development and all organizational marketing efforts.

Leadership
1. Provide leadership and direction to the executive leadership and Board of Directors in the effective operation of all development activities required to fund Club operations and deliver programs within the community.
2. Provide guidance and direction to team members and volunteers to ensure proper execution of required functions within the department and activities listed below.
- Oversee grant requests including research, proposal writing and reporting requirements.
- Build the planned giving program with a focus on deferred gifts such as bequests.
- Coordinate special events and oversee the fundraising database/tracking systems.
3. Provide guidance to a team currently made up of three Marketing and Development team members. Serve as their supervisor and Director delegating jobs and duties to each as needed.
4. Required to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed.
Strategic Planning
1. Collaborate with Executive leadership and Board, assisting in the development and implementation of a strategic plan for single and multi-year resource development efforts:
- Research and analyze agency, corporate, individual and foundation donor base and recommend solicitation strategies.
- Prepare and seek approval for corporate and foundation proposals to support the Club, using current cultivation and solicitation materials.
- Provide support for various fundraising projects/initiatives assigned by the Executive Director/CPO, such as endowments, major gifts and planned giving campaigns as well as potential Capital Campaigns.
- Ensure the evaluation of development activities and identify opportunities to improve results. Direct and implement an annual fund program, including direct mailings and annual fundraising drives.
- Strategically facilitate setting fundraising goals that align with Corporate and Unit level budgets as well as their timelines so that they are aligned with Club needs and community potential for major gifts.
- Assist in Providing campaign consultation for capital or endowment campaigns from vendor selection, feasibility, goal setting, and implementation.
Donor Stewardship
1. Provide guidance in Donor Stewardship for Team Members, Board, and club volunteers.
- Utilizing skills found in moves management, cultivate potential major gift prospects, develop proposals, and conduct solicitations of individual donors.
- Collaborate with Executive Director/CPO, Board, The BGCA Development office as well as other key volunteers to engage them in donor solicitations, based on donor interests, personal relationships, program expertise and other criteria.
Board Development
1. Identify, recruit and train board members to participate in solicitation and other income development activities.
2. Encourage and support board committees responsible for planning and implementing development activities.
Resource Management
1. Participate in the development, implementation, and monitoring of the Club’s annual budget, control expenditures within budget and maintain donor and financial records in accordance with standards.
2. Ensure productive and effective performance by all marketing & development team members.
Partnership Development
1. Develop strategic alliances with community leaders and local officials. Assist in Developing collaborative partnerships with other youth serving organizations, members, parents, families, funders, and community organizations.
2. Meet prospective donors and supporters on a continual basis to establish strong relationships.
3. Grow a major gifts program including identification, cultivation, and solicitation of major donors.
Marketing and Public Relations
1. Increase visibility of Club development activities and maintain public trust.
2. Make public appearances/accept speaking engagements to share information about the Club with the community.
3. Other duties as required and assigned by the Executive Director.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensure design and development of public relations documents for use in the promotion of fund raising, and education of the public, including press releases. Ensure the development and distribution of marketing documents.
RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal: Maintain oral and written contact with the Executive Director/CPO, Board of Directors, Leadership Team member, development team members, as well as club volunteers for the purpose of exchanging information, and provide progress reports as needed regarding activities and planned programs, and to coordinate events.
External: Maintain oral and written contact with other agencies, business leaders, community groups, boards of directors of such organizations, and the media for the purpose of exchanging information and ideas and for the purpose of fundraising.
CERTIFICATION/ASSOCIATION:
- Must become registered with Boys & Girls Clubs of America (www.mybgca.net).
- Complete required assigned trainings.
- Must possess a valid Driver’s License and be insurable under BGCNN standards.
- May be required to gain First Aid and CPR Certifications.
- Attend local, regional, and national conferences as appropriate for position and within budgetary guidelines.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, or certification in a specialty area preferred. Minimum of three years of work experience, preferably with a non-profit organization, responding to resource development and communication needs, and/or relevant experience.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proficient in using various computer software programs, including but not limited to MS Office applications, and various web-based applications.
- Working knowledge of Social Media platforms with a willingness to learn and expand in this area if needed.
- Able to learn new software like Canva for marketing flyers and social media posts.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Must be able to perform duties which require prolonged standing, walking, talking, hearing, standing, sitting, bending for long periods of time. May occasionally be required to kneel, run and/or climb.
- Must be able to enter data into the computer, use the telephone and other office equipment.
- Must be able to lift, move, manipulate and or hold objects up to 25 pounds. Objects that exceed the 25-pound weight limit require additional assistance when moving, lifting, or manipulating.
