The Aquatics Director will serve as the direct supervision for all waterfront-related activities. This position reports directly to the Program Director.  The Aquatics Director oversees all water activities and compliance including recreational swimming, learn to swim, boating activities, and water inspections. The ideal candidate for this role will be enthusiastic and well versed in water safety protocols. Also, this position participates in the waterfront camp programs' overall planning and has supervisory responsibility for the aquatic team. Must be available for mandatory training in June. 

The Aquatics Director is required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 along with having a booster shot that protects against COVID-19. New employees will be required to provide proof of full vaccination prior to their start date. BCNY treats proof of vaccination confidentially and in accordance with applicable laws. The information will only be used to ensure compliance with BCNY's mandatory vaccination policy and New York State law.

• Lead in the organizing and setting up of the Waterfront before the start of camp and the breakdown at the end of sessions.
• Establish and oversee all staff and camper swimming and activities at the camp’s waterfront.
• Assist in the training of waterfront staff during staff orientation week.

• Clearly explain to each new group of campers all the waterfront rules and procedures.
• Equip team and manage the opening/closing of waterfront checklists and ensure they are completed daily.
• Lead orientation sessions for fellow staff members, and lifeguard team; introducing them to their role in the execution of policies, procedures, curriculum, and culture of your activity.
• Ensure aquatic staff follow proper procedures and safety guidelines.
• Ensure aquatic staff are using appropriate methods for recording and checking accurately who is at the water activity and any one time.

• Ensure that all waterfront areas meet all local and state guidelines.

• Be responsible for the health & safety of campers, staff & guests at water activities.
• Responsible for managing, supporting and evaluating a team of 2 aquatic staff. 

• Create a positive work atmosphere that fosters teamwork, a constructive exchange of ideas and ensures that all staff members adhere to behavior, discipline, and safety policies.
• Offer guidance and support to the aquatic team during transitions, activity facilitation, and in difficult situations. 

• Ability to pass a background check and physical exam.
• All staff must be up to date on all required immunizations and provide proof of their MMR and COVID-19 immunization according to NY State.
• Must submit proof of health examination within the past year and immunization record prior to first day of work.

• According to NY State

• must be at least 21 years old and have a minimum of:
  • one season experience as a camp aquatics director at a NYS camp; or  
  • two seasons experience consisting of at least 12 weeks as a children’s camp lifeguard at a pool or beach which had more than one lifeguard supervising it at a time; or 
  • 18 weeks of previous experience as a lifeguard at a pool or beach, which had more than one lifeguard supervising it at a time. 
  • First Aid and CPR Certification required.
  • Lifeguard Supervision and Management Certification required. 

• Bachelor’s degree in Recreation/Physical Education or related field desirable 
• Previous experience supervising staff and a collaborative team-oriented management approach, strengths-based approach to youth development.

• At least 1 year of experience with youth and camp experience preferred.
• Desire and ability to work with children outdoors in varied conditions.
• Bilingual Spanish/English or Mandarin/English preferred.
