Plumber inspects, repairs, installs, modifies, and maintains plumbing fixtures and piping in heating, water and drainage systems. Identifies plumbing and safety problems applicable to the installation and takes necessary corrective action using appropriate parts and tools. Being a Plumber complies with all required safety, building code and inspection requirements. Reads and interprets blueprints, specifications, and other instructions. Additionally, Plumber has completed required apprenticeship. Typically requires a high school diploma. Requires Journeyman Plumber status. Requires a State License for plumbing. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Plumber works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. PLUMBER/GENERAL MAINTENACE

  • PRIMARY PURPOSE: Under general supervision, maintain the flow and drainage of water, air, and other gases by assembling, installing, and repairing pipes, fittings, and plumbing fixtures districtwide. Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all plumbing systems in district facilities.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:

     

    Education / Certification:

    1. Valid Texas driver’s license and insurable by school district insurance company under the 10 point
    2. Texas journeyman plumber license

     

    Special Knowledge/Skills:

    1. Knowledge of plumbing repairs, maintenance, and installation techniques
    2. Knowledge of plumbing codes
    3. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material
    4. Ability to perform mathematical calculations
    5. Ability to diagnose and resolve problems
    6. Ability to use hand and power tools
    7. Ability to follow verbal and written instruction in English

     

    Experience:

    1. Three to five years’ experience in plumbing field.

     

    Major Responsibilities and Duties:

    1. Assemble, install, maintain, and pressure test all pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, water, drainage, sprinkler, and gas systems according to specifications and plumbing codes. 
    1. Determine sources of plumbing malfunctions and complete repairs as indicated or according to work orders. 
    1. Install and repair pipes, fittings, valves, fixtures, and plumbing system equipment, including sinks, commodes, water heaters, water softeners, etc. 
    1. Repair dishwashers and kitchen equipment that incorporate gas or water consumption. 
    1. Receive and complete work orders. 
    1. Select material and hardware and make time and materials estimates. 
    1. Maintain accurate records on material and labor used. 
    1. Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials. 
    1. Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean. 
    1. Work with building principals and supervisors to complete projects. 
    1. Detect needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment following established inspection procedures.
    1. Respond to emergency calls as needed. 
    1. Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment. 
    1. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures. 
    1. Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition. 
    1. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, climbing, etc. 
    1. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately. 
    1. Exemplify high standards of ethical conduct. 
    1. Display tolerance necessary for accepting supervision for and criticism of job performance. 
    1. Work in harmony with supervisory, faculty, and peer personnel. 
    1. Use professional information discreetly and judiciously. 
    1. Support and follow administrative and board policy. 
    1. Represent the school system to the community in a positive, professional way.  
    1. Maintain a sincere, friendly attitude toward patrons. 
    1. Perform other duties as assigned.

    Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

     

    Maintain emotional control under stress; frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Move small stacks of textbooks; media equipment, desks, and other classroom or adaptive equipment.

     

    Terms of Employment:

    Work year established by the board; salary according to current schedule.
