Police Lieutenant supervises a team of police sergeants and other law enforcement support staff. Responsible for officer assignments, patrol operations, and investigations. Being a Police Lieutenant prepares and reviews reports. Ensures all policies and procedures are followed. Additionally, Police Lieutenant coordinates in-service training, staff performance evaluation and development. Requires a bachelor's degree in criminal justice or closely related field. Typically reports to a chief of police or police captain. The Police Lieutenant typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Police Lieutenant typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. The Village of New London is 2.5 square miles with a population of approx. 2,500 residents. It is located in Southeastern Huron County. Rank consists of Chief, two Sergeants and Officers. The department operates with 4 cruisers and top of the line equipment. The 2023 year yielded nearly 3,000 calls with that number expected to increase. Currently all positions are for part-time officer. All officers are commissioned through the state of Ohio. All newly hired officers will be required to complete an FTO period before being released to work alone .
