Police Lieutenant supervises a team of police sergeants and other law enforcement support staff. Responsible for officer assignments, patrol operations, and investigations. Being a Police Lieutenant prepares and reviews reports. Ensures all policies and procedures are followed. Additionally, Police Lieutenant coordinates in-service training, staff performance evaluation and development. Requires a bachelor's degree in criminal justice or closely related field. Typically reports to a chief of police or police captain. The Police Lieutenant typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Police Lieutenant typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. Possession of an appropriate valid California operator’s license issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles.
Medical Requirements:
Must meet prior to appointment, and maintain during employment with the Sanger Police Department, medical, health and physical standards as required by the department.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Strength, stamina, coordination and balance to stand and walk for long periods, bend and reach to conduct inspections, climb up and down ladders, run in pursuit of detainees, physically restrain uncooperative and violent individuals, drive vehicles in high speed pursuit, carry equipment and supplies; remain alert in a confined space on all shifts; vision to see details in low light; coordination, vision and strength for use of firearms; occasional lifting of objects weighing up to fifty pounds; strength to move the weight of an adult human body.
