Police Lieutenant supervises a team of police sergeants and other law enforcement support staff. Responsible for officer assignments, patrol operations, and investigations. Being a Police Lieutenant prepares and reviews reports. Ensures all policies and procedures are followed. Additionally, Police Lieutenant coordinates in-service training, staff performance evaluation and development. Requires a bachelor's degree in criminal justice or closely related field. Typically reports to a chief of police or police captain. The Police Lieutenant typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. The City of Superior Police Department is accepting applications for a highly motivated, passionate, and physically fit individual to join our team as Chief of Police and help build a culture of excellence and community service. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age, have a high school diploma or equivalent an have no felony or serious misdemeanor convictions. Additionally, all applicants must have no serious traffic violations and be of good moral character. Applicants must have a valid Nebraska Driver’s License, have at least five years of experience as a sworn Law Enforcement Officer, and hold a Nebraska Law Enforcement Certification. Applicants must be willing to work rotating shifts, weekends, nights and holidays.
The Chief of Police is responsible for coordinating and directing all activities of the Department. They shall plan, organize, and direct the maintenance of law and order and ensure that appropriate policing policies are followed at all times within the department. They shall maintain records and determine policies to be followed by personnel in the department with respect to public relations, enforcement of laws and ordinances, and public morals. They shall also be responsible for assisting in the annual budget and assist in the hiring of personnel for the department.
