Police Lieutenant supervises a team of police sergeants and other law enforcement support staff. Responsible for officer assignments, patrol operations, and investigations. Being a Police Lieutenant prepares and reviews reports. Ensures all policies and procedures are followed. Additionally, Police Lieutenant coordinates in-service training, staff performance evaluation and development. Requires a bachelor's degree in criminal justice or closely related field. Typically reports to a chief of police or police captain. The Police Lieutenant typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Police Lieutenant typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     Job Duties

    Central State Hospital (CSH), a 277-bed Joint Commission accredited inpatient psychiatric facility located in Petersburg, Virginia, is recruiting a Part-Time Security Officer IV (Security Lieutenant). Central State has been providing quality care and treatment to the citizens of the Commonwealth since 1870. It serves Central Virginia for Civil Admissions, while its Maximum Security Forensic program serves the entire Commonwealth.

    This position maintains security, custody and oversight over the patient population in the Maximum Security Unit. It provides supervision to Security Staff in the maximum security forensic unit and ensure that staff are adhering to the hospital and departmental policies and procedures.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
    Ability to use good judgment, follow directions, train and supervise staff. Ability to lift heavy objects, walk or stand a minimum of 90% of the time on shift.
    Ability to use upper extremities (hands) to hold, grasp and manipulate work materials.
    Ability to administer CPR.
    Knowledge of state laws and driving skills.
    Must have a valid driver's license.
    Previous security experience
    Previous supervisory or leadership experience.

    Candidate must be able to work 2pm to 10 p.m. and a minimum of every other weekend. Maximum 29 hours per week. No overtime.

    Additional Considerations

    Experience working in a Mental Health setting is preferred.
