Police Lieutenant supervises a team of police sergeants and other law enforcement support staff. Responsible for officer assignments, patrol operations, and investigations. Being a Police Lieutenant prepares and reviews reports. Ensures all policies and procedures are followed. Additionally, Police Lieutenant coordinates in-service training, staff performance evaluation and development. Requires a bachelor's degree in criminal justice or closely related field. Typically reports to a chief of police or police captain. The Police Lieutenant typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. The Town of Livermore Falls is seeking two innovative and committed Patrol Sergeants to usher in change and make servitude their top priory. Under the direction of the chief of police, the patrol sergeants will be designated first-line supervisors and will each oversee a small team of officers. Together with the chief, the sergeants will collaborate to create a robust field training program. The sergeants will also aid in the hire of new officers, act as special investigators, and will be participatory in a robust training schedule to hon their skills. The chief of police will allow for ununiformed hours to complete caseloads and follow-up.
Projected in Summer 2024, the Livermore Falls Police Department will transition to a continuous 48 (2-day) hours on, and continuous 120 (5-day) hours off schedule. This will give the staff 261 days off annually (not including vacation usage.) Each working day the officers will be given an unpaid sleep/rest period of 6 hours and 30 minutes. Projected salary range is between $27.62 and $35.20 hourly and will be contingent upon experience. All candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent with preference being given to candidates who are Maine Criminal Justice Academy certified officer with at least 5-years experience.
