Police Patrol Officer is responsible for patrolling an assigned area to prevent and discover crime and to enforce regulations. Responsible for responding to calls, taking necessary action at the scene of crime or disturbance, conducting investigations, making arrests, testifying in court, and completing reports/forms and routine paperwork. Being a Police Patrol Officer requires an associate degree in criminal justice and/or additional certifications and at least 12 to 18 months of law enforcement experience. Requires Firearms Certification. Additionally, Police Patrol Officer typically reports to a police sergeant. The Police Patrol Officer works under moderate supervision.     The salary range for this position is $59,016 - $92,832. Certified Officer starting salary up to $70,752 with additional leave time depending on qualifications. Newton police officers receive excellent benefits, including:

    Newton, Iowa, is a progressive community with a population of 15,750 located east of the Des Moines metro on Interstate 80 and is the home of the Iowa Speedway. The Newton Police Department is a full-service law enforcement agency consisting of 27 sworn and 6 non-sworn employees and includes school resource officers, narcotics detective, general crimes detective, K9 unit, tactical team and motorcycle unit.

    Applicant testing includes a written POST exam, physical fitness test, polygraph exam, MMPI psychological exam, drug test, medical exam and a thorough background check. Iowa Certified Officers may be exempt from some portions of the entry level testing. The physical agility test and POST written exam will be administered to all qualified applicants. More information will be emailed to qualified candidates at a later time.

Applicants must meet the minimum hiring requirements set forth by the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy and section 400.17 and/or 501 of the Administrative Code of Iowa.
