  • The UAF Police Department is currently recruiting for a self-motivated, team player to join our department as a Police Officer 1 or 2.

    University of Alaska Fairbanks Police Officers are responsible for the safety and security of campus students, faculty, and staff. As a UAF police officer, you will be expected to address traffic violations, conduct criminal investigations, and participate in community events. You will be expected to be knowledgeable about Alaska traffic laws, criminal statutes, and UAF policies and procedures. The criminal investigations you will be handling on campus can include criminal mischief, criminal trespass, domestic violence, sexual assault, misconduct involving weapons, misconduct involving controlled substances, and theft. UAF police officers will have the flexibility to patrol on-campus, as well as off-campus in surrounding areas. You will be expected to maintain the department standard in firearms proficiency as well as physical fitness.

    UAF Police Department is the type of police culture that is sought after in today’s law enforcement climate. The leadership is supportive and positive, leading to highly motivated employees. They thrive off advancement of the department, always finding ways to expand and add value to the UAF community. Even though the department is small, there are many opportunities for advancement. UAF has multiple officers who are part of the Northern Special Emergency Reaction Team. This tactical team is connected to the Alaska State Troopers and responds to critical incidents throughout northern Alaska, providing valuable support to local communities and other agencies. UAF Police Department also started an explosives canine unit, which is hoping to expand its teams within the next year.     Minimum Qualifications:

    This position requires that the applicant have a high school graduation or GED, is an US citizen, 21 years of age, with no felony convictions Applicant must meet all eligibility requirements of Alaska Police Standards Council per 13 AAC 85.005-120. Applicant is required to be able to pass physical fitness test to include 25 push-ups and 27 sit-ups within one minute, and run 1.5 miles in less than 15:12. Applicant is required to have a valid Alaska Driver’s license at the time of hire. Applicant must successfully complete written test, oral interview, and polygraph test, or equivalent. Applicant must pass background investigation and not be disqualified from any portion of a prior investigation within the last twelve months. No use of marijuana in last twelve months. No use, transport or purchase of schedule IA, IIA, IIA, or IVA controlled substance during last ten (10) years (unless under 21 at the time of use AND the act occurred more than three years from date of application). Applicant cannot have received more than two moving violations within one year of application or 5 points assessed on any driver’s license in past three years. Conditional hiree must pass medical and psychological examination. Hiree must attest and subscribe to the law enforcement Code of Ethics. Hiree must successfully complete the Law Enforcement Academy, the department Field Training Program, and obtain basic Police Officer certification by Alaska Police Standards Council in accordance with Alaska Statute within 12 months of hire.

    Position Details:

    This position is located on the Troth Yeddha campus in Fairbanks. This is a full-time, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule, Grade 79 or 80, based on education and experience.

    Order of recruitment process: 1) Departmental review of applicant materials. Complete packets, including F-3, must be received to move forward. 2) Confirm eligibility (US citizen, 21 years of age, no felony convictions). 3) Current or previous sworn law enforcement experience (attendance at basic public safety training academy not required per APSC) will review at department level; or Testing completed via Public Safety Testing. 4) Pass physical fitness requirements. 5) Interview/ oral boards. Priority will be given to applicants with prior law enforcement experience.
