Police Patrol Officer is responsible for patrolling an assigned area to prevent and discover crime and to enforce regulations. Responsible for responding to calls, taking necessary action at the scene of crime or disturbance, conducting investigations, making arrests, testifying in court, and completing reports/forms and routine paperwork. Being a Police Patrol Officer requires an associate degree in criminal justice and/or additional certifications and at least 12 to 18 months of law enforcement experience. Requires Firearms Certification. Additionally, Police Patrol Officer typically reports to a police sergeant. The Police Patrol Officer works under moderate supervision.     This is a highly responsible position that involves networking with the community and the protection of life and property. This is accomplished through patrol work, criminal investigation, community policing and enforcement of the laws of the State of Florida and the Ordinances of the City of Palm Bay. Starting Salary for State of Florida Certified Police Officer $50,577
     
    Requirements for the Position:

    1. Applicants must possess a valid Florida Driver's License prior to employment and maintain a safe and acceptable driving record.

    2. Applicants must also meet one of the following criteria:
    • Hold a current State of Florida Law Enforcement Certification ~OR~
    • Hold a current Out of State Law Enforcement Certification ~OR~
    • Accepted into, currently attending or completed a State of Florida Police Academy or Equivalency of Training Program ~OR~
    • In process of enrollment to a State of Florida Police Academy or Equivalency of Training Program ~OR~
    • Hold a Conditional Offer of Employment from the City of Palm Bay Police Department for an  LEO position
    (Candidates must obtain Florida certification within 6 weeks of academy graduation date)

    Applicants must complete a City of Palm Bay Employment Application. Resumes alone are not acceptable. Please attach your DD214, proof of college degree, FDLE certification, and State of Florida Law Enforcement certification, if applicable.

    NOTE:  Palm Bay Police Department has a policy regarding tattoos which states: Tattoos will not be permitted on the head, face, neck, scalp, and hands. Non-offensive tattoos are permitted on the arms. Therefore, applicants with tattoos that show above a shirt collar or below the wrist and are considered offensive would not meet this requirement.

    Hiring Process:

    • Applicants complete an Employment Application and answer all questions on the application. Any admissions made which would violate Police Department Employment Standards will automatically cause the applicant to be disqualified.
     
    • Applicants who progress through the background investigation without adverse information will be interviewed.

    • Applicants still in process at this phase will undergo a physical agility testing, a comprehensive background investigation; polygraph examination; medical examination; drug test, and a psychological evaluation.
     
    The city continually evaluates applicants and may place them on an eligibility list. Applicants who have not received a conditional offer letter will be removed from the eligibility list after one year.
