Police Patrol Officer is responsible for patrolling an assigned area to prevent and discover crime and to enforce regulations. Responsible for responding to calls, taking necessary action at the scene of crime or disturbance, conducting investigations, making arrests, testifying in court, and completing reports/forms and routine paperwork. Being a Police Patrol Officer requires an associate degree in criminal justice and/or additional certifications and at least 12 to 18 months of law enforcement experience. Requires Firearms Certification. Additionally, Police Patrol Officer typically reports to a police sergeant. The Police Patrol Officer works under moderate supervision. POSITION SUMMARY
The City of Ceres is accepting applications for Academy Graduate and current Academy Attendee Police Officers! Under general supervision, the ideal candidate will perform state and local law enforcement and crime prevention duties and responsibilities; including traffic control and issuing citations; participate in and conduct criminal investigations, and makes arrests; provides support and assistance to special crime prevention and law enforcement programs; and performs a variety of technical and administrative law enforcement services and activities; engages with local Ceres community and contributes to a positive, trustful, and professional Police Department image, and respected relationships with residents, businesses, academic, and other communities throughout the City. Pension/Retirement: The City offers a generous defined benefit plan pension (membership required) in the Stanislaus County Employees’ Retirement Association (StanCERA), as governed by County Employees’ Retirement Law of 1937 and Public Employees’ Pension Reform Act (PEPRA). “Classic members” (currently or within the last six (6) months a member of StanCERA or subject to reciprocity with another eligible retirement plan, eg. CalPERS) are enrolled in the City’s 3% @ 50 plan; final compensation at retirement is based on the single highest year. Non-classic or “new members” are enrolled in the 2.7% @ 57 plan, and employees are required to pay 100% of the normal contribution rate as prescribed by PEPRA (currently 14.11%), on a pre-tax basis; final compensation at retirement is based on the average of the three highest salary years.
Health: The City contributes toward the combined monthly premiums for medical, dental and vision a maximum of $710, $1,470 or $2,090, dependent on level of medical coverage enrollment. Some of the monthly plan premium options are currently at NO COST to the employee and family! Any employee contributions to health premiums are taken as pre-tax deductions. Employees eligible to waive medical coverage receive $200 per month in additional taxable compensation. Carriers include: Blue Shield EPO, Blue Shield PPO, Kaiser HMO; Stanislaus Foundation Dental and Blue Shield, VSP Vision.
Miscellaneous Benefits: The City contributes an additional $100 per month through a qualified Section 125 plan to the employee’s Flexible Spending Account (FSA - for non-reimbursable medical expenses or daycare) or Health Savings Account (HSA), as applicable.
Voluntary Benefits: Short-Term and Long-Term Disability, Voluntary Life and AD&D.
Other Benefits & Leave: The City provides an Employee Assistance Program, voluntary options for Deferred Compensation (457), sick leave with unlimited accrual, vacation accrual based on years of service with maximum accrual of 480 hours and a multitude of specialty pays including, Bilingual, K9, Detectives, Special Investigation Unit, Traffic, SWAT, FTO.
