Police Sergeant is responsible for supervising patrol officers and agents as assigned and maintaining the chain of command within the operations of the department. Responsible for developing training programs for department personnel, directing special units, preparing special reports or projects as assigned, receiving and reviewing reports from officers, and assigning personnel in accordance to specific needs. Being a Police Sergeant requires a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and/or additional certifications and at least 5-7 years of law enforcement experience. Typically reports to a chief of police, captain, or lieutenant. The Police Sergeant manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Police Sergeant typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     A police officer shall assume any other duties and responsibilities, which may be delegated by a superior officer or an entity with authority within the department.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Must be at least 18 years of age
    • Possess a valid Driver's License
    • Must have a high school diploma or GED from an accredited institution
    • U. S. Citizen
    • No felony convictions

    Requirements:

    • Must be a U.S. citizen or have legal authorization to work in the country
    • High school diploma or equivalent (some agencies may require additional education)
    • Completion of a certified police academy training program
    • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
    • Ability to pass a thorough background investigation, including criminal history check
    • Ability to meet agency-specific physical agility requirements
    • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

    Skills:

    • CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) Certification
    • First aid knowledge to provide immediate medical assistance when needed
    • Loss prevention techniques to identify and prevent theft or property damage
    • Strong driving skills to safely operate police vehicles in various conditions
    • Conflict management skills to de-escalate tense situations and resolve disputes peacefully
    • Animal care knowledge to handle animals encountered during duty
    • Proficient in law enforcement procedures, protocols, and techniques
    • Surveillance techniques to monitor suspicious activities and gather evidence
    • Familiarity with militarized equipment and tactics for high-risk situations
