Policy Change Supervisor supervises a group of insurance policy change technicians to ensure that policy changes and requests are carried out according to established guidelines. Determines action on changes for which a policyholder has applied, but which are not covered by policy provisions, and computes costs or allowances for policy changes. Being a Policy Change Supervisor contacts policy owners and field agents with pertinent information that may affect a policy change. Does not have underwriting approval. Additionally, Policy Change Supervisor requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Policy Change Supervisor supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. To be a Policy Change Supervisor typically requires 3-5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. Thorough knowledge of functional area and department processes. Water Efficiency and Policy Intern

    West Basin Municipal Water District (District) is a leader in water recycling, conservation, water resource management, and youth and adult education. West Basin provides drinking water and recycled water to eight local retail water agencies including four cities, three private water companies, and one county water agency. The District serves a population of nearly one million residents in 17 cities and unincorporated areas along the coastal corridor of southern Los Angeles County. The District is governed by an elected five-member Board of Directors and is a member agency of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California.

     

    West Basin operates the Edward C. Little Water Recycling Facility (ECLWRF) and three satellite treatment plants. The ECLWRF is the largest treatment and water purification facility of its type providing nearly 40 million gallons of water each day to over 400 sites. West Basin utilizes various advanced treatment processes to produce five types of “fit-for-purpose” waters used for commercial, industrial, and landscape purposes.

     

    West Basin owns and operates over 100 miles of recycled water pipelines and supplies recycled water to customers for non-potable use. To expand the use of recycled water, the District assists customers with the process of converting their sites to recycled water use. In addition, the District conducts site inspections to ensure compliance with the safe use of recycled water.

    The Water Efficiency and Policy Intern will assist staff in performing routine planning,  research, analysis, grant and data management, and customer agency support activities related to water conservation, water demand/use, water supply availability, and other water resource management issues. The Intern will perform other related duties as assigned and may occasionally be expected to attend water conservation events, such as but not limited to, community outreach events, which could take place on weeknights or during the weekend.

    The Water Efficiency and Policy Intern must meet one of the following two requirements

     

    1. Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university with at least junior standing.
    2. Recent completion of a Bachelor's degree in the previous six (6) months.

    A major in planning, environmental science, public administration, or a closely related field is required to be considered. Applicants who are both not currently enrolled in an accredited college and who graduated before December 2023 will not be considered.

                                                                                                                                          

    The candidate must possess excellent communication and technical skills, the ability to work effectively in a team environment, have comprehensive computer skills, and possess strong interpersonal skills to work cooperatively and maintain effective working relationships with District Board members, managers, staff, vendors, consultants, and representatives of other governmental agencies encountered in the course of employment.  The incumbent must also have the ability to exercise sound judgment within established guidelines.  


    The Intern position is a part-time/temporary at-will position.  The Intern must be able to work for at least a minimum of six months.  Work hours are flexible and average approximately 20 hours per week in the fiscal–year period: July – June.

     

    The ideal candidate will possess the ability to occasionally lift and carry materials up to 25 pounds; kneel, crouch, stand, walk, twist, reach, or bend for prolonged periods, and occasionally be available at times other than regularly scheduled work hours, such as nights and weekends.  Weekend work may be required on an as-needed basis.

     

    Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License, proof of insurance, and an acceptable driving record are preferred at the time of appointment.  The employee is required to use their vehicle with mileage reimbursed at the standard IRS rate.

    This part-time/temporary, at-will position pays $17.50 - $21.00 per hour, depending on qualifications.  This position is not eligible for District benefits.
