A Brief Overview
The Sr. Payroll Processing Specialist is a key member of the payroll team responsible for executing complex payroll processes, ensuring compliance with regulations, and providing expertise in payroll operations. This role is responsible for processing the weekly payroll cycle and addressing escalated payroll issues.
What you will do
End to End Full Cycle Payroll Processing: Assist with managing activities associated with execution of assigned payrolls, including collection and validation of inputs and error resolution. Communicate payroll status to team members and approval processing milestones. Analyze, code, format, balance, and validate pay batches then upload into system. Process complex payroll changes, including bonuses, gross-ups, STD, return to work, LOA, military leave, severance, union, expat, shadow payroll, executive and deceased wages. Validate entries and reconcile payroll, process changes to correct errors. Research issues for root cause to provide to leadership.
Pre/Post Payroll Activities: Responsible for collection of payroll overpayments / repayments working with PLD, Finance, Legal and Payroll teams. Responsible for escheatment processing and providing answers to Treasury and Finance inquiries. Responsible for early payroll processing communications to the business for modified payroll schedules or additional payroll runs. Perform time and attendance functions such as auditing timecards, verifying paid time off balances, ensuring correct payment during leaves of absence. Review salary adjustments and ensure payments are validated and correct. Modify, run, and deliver several time sensitive reports to the business. Supply requested information by using reports and merging data using technical skills in excel. Adhere to the Year End project plan and deliver prompt results. Research and resolve problems or discrepancies related to payroll, time and attendance, or employee electronic records and associated data to support system integrity.
Data management: Maintain accurate payroll records, employee data, and timekeeping data.
Review daily error reports to identify corrections to employee records.
Communicate changes to business owners of upstream and downstream systems as well as proper tax and location assignment in the payroll / timekeeping systems. Review timekeeping audit reports to identify erroneous time entries.
Compliance: Apply working knowledge of ERISA, ACA, IRS, DOL FLSA Compensation and fringe benefit programs to ensure adherence and compliance.
Payroll Auditing: Assist with running daily audit reports and analyze data to determine corrections to employee data and pay using independent discretion. Follow all internal and external payroll controls as well as Federal, State, and Local laws.
Customer support: Provide excellent customer service through various channels, including phone, email, or in-person interactions. Provide Tier 3 level support to troubleshoot issues. Partner with cross-functional departments, to serve as a point of contact for payroll inquiries, including knowledge of payroll best practices, wage and tax requirements.
Continuous improvement: Assist with continuous improvement initiatives for payroll processes. Trouble shoots more complex payroll issue.
Training: Train new payroll team members on payroll procedures. Update standard operating procedures as they change and create new training documents as needed. Cross train with others on payroll team.

High School Diploma Required
Bachelor's Degree Preferred
CPP or FPC certification Preferred
Experience Qualifications
1-3 years Payroll experience in multi-state, high volume environment Required
Experience using ADP payroll processing software and Kronos Timekeeping Preferred
Skills and Abilities
Microsoft Excel – Pivot tables, VLOOKUP’s - Required
Knowledge - In-depth understanding of payroll laws, tax regulations, and accounting principles
Software Proficiency - Proficiency in payroll software and systems, including experience with advanced features
Attention to Detail - Exceptional attention to detail to ensure accuracy in payroll calculations
Communication - Effective communication skills to liaise with various departments and handle employee inquiries
Problem-Solving - Ability to analyze complex payroll issues and develop solutions
Confidentiality - A commitment to maintaining the confidentiality of sensitive payroll information
