Polysomnographic Technician under the direction of a physician, administers various sleep studies in order to diagnose the type and extent of sleep disorders. Performs routine patient assessments, scores sleep records, documents other test results, and collects and transmits biological specimens for analysis. Being a Polysomnographic Technician typically requires an associate degree or its equivalent and certification as a Polysomnographic Technician. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The principal responsibility for this position for which prior experience is required will be performance of overnight polysomnography (six 12-hour overnight shifts additional 8-hours) amounting to 80 hours across a two week pay period within our 2-bed Sleep Diagnostic & Treatment Center at the James J. Peters VAMC, a teaching affiliate of the Mount Sinai Hospital, New York, N.Y..
Salary for this RRT hybrid position is competitive at the Grade 11 level. Although having an RRT degree or equivalent is a prerequisite, the position will focus almost exclusively on performance of polysomnography and potentially other functions pertaining to the operation of the sleep center such as home sleep studies setups, PAP setups, etc. Experience scoring sleep studies is a plus, but not required. Certification as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) or equivalent is desired, but not required.
