  • Position Description:
    The portfolio manager is responsible for gathering, analyzing and interpreting credit and financial information for existing and prospective customers to assess credit quality and minimize risk and potential loss. They assist commercial/ag bankers in managing their client relationships. Manages a portfolio of $40MM to $80MM and/or client relationships between 60-120. This position will need to learn Government guaranteed loan servicing and work outs.

    Responsible for identifying opportunities within a given portfolio and matching appropriate products or services to fulfill those client needs. Position Responsibilities:
    Works with the credit department to ensure appropriate underwriting, credit structure and risk rating in relation to the credit risk.

    a. Analyzes historical, and projected financial statements for business, personal and guarantors. Identifies and analyzes risks, and repayment ability.

    b. Evaluates the adequacy of loan structures and collateral positions.

    c. Reviews credit presentations for accuracy and recommends approval or decline.

    d. Reviews loan file documentations for accuracy and compliance with approval requirements.

    e. Completes required participation allocations based upon an understanding of requirements of combining loans for legal lending limit considerations and assesses appropriate level of approval required for each request

    f. Leads underwriting discussions with Credit Officer and commercial/ag bankers.

    g. Assists Specialized lending on any credit enhancements that may be attached to a credit request to mitigate identified risks.

    h. Keeps the commercial/ag banker informed of the status of the credit and obtains concurrence for the banker on significant changes to proposed terms and conditions of the credit.

    i. Holds meetings with required individuals to ensure the renewal is properly underwritten, and that the loan is renewed on or before the maturity date.
    Assists commercial/ag banker in the monitoring of the portfolio, specifically:

    a. Obtains and reviews financial statements on a timely basis and clears corresponding tickler.

    b. Understands, detects, and reports the early warning signs of problem credits. Minimizes the risk of credit loss by maintaining appropriate risk ratings on all loans.

    c. Obtains and reviews compliance certificates, borrowing base certificates and associated receivable, payable and inventory reports on a timely basis.

    d. Monitors all covenants and follow ups immediately on any covenants out of compliance.

    e. Assists the banker in preparing for client and prospect meetings.

    f. Participates with the banker in meetings with the client or prospect. Effectively manages the lenders pipeline. Assists the banker in ensuring that all client documentation and customer agreements, credit and non-credit alike, are accurate and properly executed, and funds are withheld until all documents are properly executed. Assists the banker by being identified as the in-bank relationship manager, taking care of requests from the customer that cannot be handled by the loan assistant. May assist the banker by conducting loan closings. Assists the banker by scheduling, attending and participating in the lender annual reviews. Works with bank personnel to acquire appropriate real estate property evaluations. Works with special assets on collections of past due loans, foreclosures, troubled debt restructures, problem loan reports and work outs. When applicable, actively participates in community activities that promote the bank. Conducts business in compliance with bank policies, procedures, federal and state laws and regulations Continuously seeks additional knowledge and training to enhance sales, credit and people skills. Minimum Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS -
    Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience

    1-3 years' experience as a loan assistant, project manager, or equivalent work related experience.

    Strong analytical skills

    Understanding of credit analysis, accounting and finance principles.

    Knowledge of commercial and agricultural lending, credit and appropriate banking laws and regulations

    Experience in identifying customers' needs and matching appropriate solutions for the needs.

    Track record of demonstrating accuracy and thoroughness; looks for ways to improve and promote quality. Applies feedback to improve performance and monitors own work to ensure quality.

    Ability to maintain confidentiality of customer and credit information.

    Demonstrated proficiency in organizing and prioritizing work to meet deadlines, with the ability to adapt within a changing environment. Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. Depending on location and time of year, extreme high and low temperatures within the building will be experienced.     BSA Requirements:
    It is the responsibility of all employees to make all reasonable efforts to identify suspicious cash activity which may be associated with customer attempts to avoid the reporting requirements of the BSA or government or federal tax reporting, as well as potential money laundering resulting from criminal / illegal activities. All suspicious activity, regardless of the amount involved in the transaction, must be reported to a supervisor or Branch Manager for further investigation and possible reporting by the Bank Secrecy Officer to the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN).

    No director, officer, employee, or agent who reports a suspicious transaction under the requirements of the BSA may notify any person involved in the transaction that the transaction has been reported.

    Each employee of the bank shall be required to complete Bank Secrecy Act / Suspicious Activity training periodically which is commensurate with the duties of their position. $57,460 - $83,300
