By joining the Division of Water (DOW)/Surface Water Permits Branch/Municipal Section as an Environmental Scientist V in Franklin county, you will have the opportunity to serve as a technical, scientific advisor and coordinator of the Pretreatment Program which reviews, approves, and oversees municipal pretreatement programs for discharges to Publicly Owned Treatment Works (POTWs) across the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
Holders of the Environmental Scientist V position will complete tasks such as:

Administers requirements of the National Pretreatment Standards established in the Clean Water Act and implemented in KPDES permits.
- Researches, develops, and drafts new or revised program specific regulations, policies, and procedures based on State and Federal regulations, including researching and incorporating requirements for new and emerging contaminants such as Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS).
- Conducts on-site audits and inspections, documents findings, and issues reports with results and recommendations.
- Coordinates with Division of Enforcement for violations.
- Provides technical assistance and training to regulated entities.
- Prepares detailed reports and technical documents.
- Updates and tracks activities.
