  • POSITION SUMMARY

    Plan, direct, and coordinate the Quality Assurance program. Formulate and audit Quality Assurance and Quality Control policies and processes. Stop production and/or hold shipments when product specification or requirements are not met.

    Job-specific functions:

    • Supervise inspectors and inspection activities.
    • Monitor performance of Quality Assurance and Quality Control systems, to ensure effectiveness and efficiency.
    • Analyze quality control inspection results and provide feedback and interpretation to production management or staff.
    • Communicate Quality Control information to all relevant organizational departments, outside vendors, or customers.
    • Confer with sales department to define customer requirements and expectations.
    • Create and implement inspection criteria and ensure they are reflected in Work Instructions.
    • Direct the tracking of defects, inspection results, other regularly reported Quality Control data.
    • Identify critical points in the manufacturing process and recommend inspection operations to be used at these points.
    • Identify quality problems or areas for improvement and recommend solutions.
    • Instruct Quality Assurance staff in Best Practices.
    • Instruct vendors on quality guidelines.
    • Participate in the development of product specifications by giving quality based insight to Engineering.
    • Produce reports regarding nonconformance of products. (NCMR)
    • Review quality documentation.
    • Visit supplier facilities to audit or inspect.
    • Coordinate the selection and implementation of quality control methodologies and equipment, such as inspection gauges.
    • Generate and maintain quality control operating budgets.
    • Review and approve quality plans submitted by suppliers.
    • Review statistical studies, technological advances, or regulatory standards and trends to stay abreast of issues in the field of quality control.
    • Stop production and/or hold shipments when product defects are present or when product requirements/specifications are not met.
    • Conduct routine and non-routine analyses of in-process materials, raw materials and finished goods.
    • Create, maintain, and revise report templates needed for inspection result documentation.
    • Evaluate Quality Assurance Best Practices to determine how they might be improved.
    • Identify quality problems and recommend solutions.
    • Investigate questionable inspection and testing results.
    • Monitor testing procedures to ensure that all tests are performed according to established item specifications, standard test methods, or protocols.
    • Participate in out-of-specification and failure investigations and recommend corrective actions.
    • Review data from suppliers to ensure accuracy and regulatory compliance.
    • Supply quality control data to customers when necessary or required.
    • Develop and qualify new testing and inspection methods.
    • Ensure that cleanliness and safety standards are maintained.
    • Participate in internal assessments and audits, as required.
    • Serve as a technical liaison between quality control and other departments, vendors, or customers.
    • Discard or reject products, materials, or inspection equipment not meeting specifications.
    • Inspect finished products for conformance to customer specifications and PEM Quality Standards. (final gearbox inspections).
    • Discuss non-conforming issues with Supervisors, Team Leaders, and sometimes with those responsible for the defect, and recommend necessary corrective actions.
    • Write inspection reports describing results (final gear-box inspections).
    • Adjust, clean, or repair products to correct defects found during inspections.
    • Direct workers to position products, components, or parts.
    • Interpret and understand all customer requirements. (Terms and Conditions, product requirements, purchase orders, etc.)
    • Confer with other supervisors to coordinate operations and activities within or between departments.
    • Assign employee training to experienced workers.
    • Interpret specifications, blueprints, job orders, and company policies and procedures for workers.
    • Monitor employees' attendance and hours worked.
    • Requisition inspection equipment, supplies, equipment parts, or repair services.
    • Confer with management or subordinates to resolve worker problems, complaints, or grievances.
    • Recommend or implement measures to motivate employees and to improve production methods, product quality, or efficiency.
    • Recommend or execute personnel actions, such as hiring, evaluations, and promotions.
    • Investigate non-conforming issues by communicating with every person needed in order to obtain valid interpretation of consequences and appropriate disposition.
    • Maintain, evaluate, revise, and track the Quality Assurance manual.
    • Continually focus on Quality Assurance Department development and improvement.
    • Conduct weekly Quality Assurance Department Meetings.
    • Update/revise Quality Assurance Work Instructions with improvements and new developments.
    • E-Sheet review of Quality Assurance staff.
    • Oversee and participate in the Best Practice Improvement Opportunity process (per Best Practice) to ensure Corrective Action of non-conforming incidents are implemented into Best Practices.
    • Audit Quality Assurance Manual and Department Best Practices.
