Power Plant Operations Manager manages and oversees the daily operations of a power generation plant. Monitors operations for efficiency and safety ensuring that all applicable regulatory requirements are followed. Being a Power Plant Operations Manager directs the implementation of preventative maintenance, emergency and operational plans and procedures. Position performs work planning, organizing, and directing water and wastewater treatment, ensuring compliance with regulatory agency requirements. Duties include: reviewing operational data and performance; determining changes and improvements; overseeing the maintenance of facilities; working with operations and maintenance staff to develop a preventive maintenance program; coordinating repairs; installing mechanical equipment; working with contractors; researching ways to improve plant operation; recruiting staff; evaluating staff performance; ensuring proper training of staff; developing and monitoring budgets; serving as the ORC for sewer lift stations; serving as interim ORC or backup ORC for Plants; overseeing facility projects; maintaining and preparing records and reports; developing and implementing plans and work instructions; attending classes, seminars, and continuing education courses; communicating with State officials about plant performance; researching and recommending strategies for meeting new regulatory requirements responding to and resolving citizen inquiries; conducting tours of the treatment plants and making presentations; participating and serving as lead with respect to the Environmental Management System.
Hours: Full-time; first shift. Will be required to work outside of normal working hours in stand-by, on-call or other emergency situations.
To Compete in the Selection Process: Associates degree with coursework in environmental science or related field and extensive experience in maintenance, water, and wastewater treatment plant operations including supervisory experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Thorough knowledge of water and wastewater treatment including: biological and chemical treatment; regulations; supervision; safety regulations and practices; chemical and physical processes; and mechanical and hydraulic engineering principles. Skilled in use of personal computers and ability to plan, lay out, and supervise staff; supervise the maintenance of records; prepare clear and concise technical reports; program and operate the SCADA system; and establish and maintain effective working relationships. Special Requirements: Possession of a valid NC Driver’s License and possession of or the Grade IV Collections System Operator certification upon hire. Possession of Grade IV Biological Wastewater Operator certification and/or a Class A Surface Water Treatment certification is preferred.
