Power Plant Operations Manager manages and oversees the daily operations of a power generation plant. Monitors operations for efficiency and safety ensuring that all applicable regulatory requirements are followed. Being a Power Plant Operations Manager directs the implementation of preventative maintenance, emergency and operational plans and procedures. Ensures all applicable regulatory requirements are and safety protocols are followed. Additionally, Power Plant Operations Manager resolves problems and manages resources. May require a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a director. The Power Plant Operations Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Power Plant Operations Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.   • POSITION SUMMARY:

    Under general direction of a supervisor or lead-person, will perform a variety of work related to the operation and maintenance of diesel power generation engines and equipment at the Barking Sands, Kokee, Makaha Ridge, and Niihau sites.

     MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES:

    The individual will perform a variety of duties related to the operation and maintenance of diesel power generation engines and equipment, such as:

    • Operate diagnostic and other test equipment related to general maintenance and repair; research and identify parts from catalogs; perform maintenance, repair, overhaul and replacement of parts related to the operation of generators and equipment.
    • Knowledgeable in operating principles of diesel-powered equipment and medium voltage switchgear.
    • Will perform fundamental tasks such as preventative maintenance of power generation engines and equipment, cleaning and painting of equipment and generator rooms.
    • Responsible for care of Government equipment, tools, property, and materials, and assure that they are properly maintained and safeguarded.
    • Performs specific tasks in accordance with verbal and/or written instructions and observes safety, fire, health, and work rules.
    • Prepare/maintains reports and records related to the work assignments.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

     WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

    Environment: 

    • Outdoor and indoor environment.
    • Must be able to withstand heat (weather).
    • Must be willing to work odd hours in support of PMRF operations.
    • Must be capable of traveling to remote sites on neighbor islands via military helicopters.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education:

    •   High School or equivalent.   Must have completed trade school training, correspondence school, or have a minimum of four years apprenticeship or equivalent work experience.
    •   A.S. Degree
    •   Bachelor’s Degree  or combination of years education and years of experience.

     Experience:

    • A minimum of three years specific work experience in the specified field required.
    • Diesel mechanics license and State of Hawaii Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred.
    • Equivalent training and course work may be substituted in the absence of license.

     

    SECURITY CLEARANCE:  

    Secret security clearance is required. Applicants selected must be a US Citizen in order to apply for a Secret Security Clearance.  Applicants selected either must currently possess a Secret clearance or will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements to obtain clearance prior to commencement of employment, and maintain a security clearance for access to classified information or Closed/Restricted Areas throughout duration of employment.
