    Wolverine is a generation and transmission electric cooperative headquartered in beautiful Cadillac, Michigan. We are owned by and supply wholesale electric power to seven member cooperatives throughout Michigan, who have served rural portions of Michigan's Lower Peninsula for nearly 70 years and provide electricity to more than 260,000 homes, farms and businesses.

    As Wolverine's Apprentice Power Plant Operator, you will work under the direction of the Chief Plant Operator and complete a defined apprenticeship training program to become responsible for operating and maintaining the gas turbine electrical generation power plant. You will perform a variety of work from turbine operation to routine maintenance and minor mechanical repairs.

    Responsibilities for the Apprentice Power Plant Operator include:

    • Understanding and properly carry out switching orders and Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) procedures.
    • Keeping all equipment properly lubricated, checked, and maintained to the proper temperatures and pressures on generating units and auxiliary equipment.
    • Logging all required hourly readings and adjust the generating units and auxiliary equipment as needed.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

    • Experience in the power production field is desired.
    • High school degree or its equivalent required.
    • A valid Michigan driver's license is required.
    • Personal computer skills are required.
    • Required to complete remote apprentice operator courses through Bismarck State College outside of work
    • Must be physically and mentally able to handle the rigors of the job
    • Must be able to demonstrate good judgement
    • Must be mechanically inclined.
    • Must recognize the responsibility of the Cooperative to its members to provide continuity of service that may require working overtime, various shifts, holidays, and travel on short notice.
    • Must be willing to travel to other plants as needed.
    • Work schedules are rotating shifts including weekends and overtime.
