Brief Job Summary:
As a Hydroelectric Plant Operator or Apprentice, you’ll play a crucial role in the operation, maintenance, and repair of hydroelectric power plants. Your expertise will ensure the efficient generation of electricity from water resources. In addition to overseeing plant equipment, you’ll leverage your background as an electrician, millwright, or SCADA technician to troubleshoot and optimize plant performance.
Responsibilities:
- Equipment Operation and Control:
- Monitor and control activities associated with hydropower generation.
- Operate plant equipment, including turbines, pumps, valves, gates, fans, electric control boards, and battery banks.
- Continuously monitor equipment operation and performance, making necessary adjustments to ensure optimal efficiency.
- Maintenance and Repair:
- Perform routine maintenance on hydropower plant machinery.
- Collaborate with other technicians to troubleshoot mechanical or electrical issues.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols during maintenance tasks.
- Installation and Testing:
- Assist with the installation of new hydropower plant components.
- Test newly installed components to verify proper operation.
- Adjust turbines, valves, electrical control boards, and other plant equipment based on specifications.
- Inspections and Reporting:
- Inspect the exterior and interior of hydropower facilities.
- Collect and report operational and generation data for commercial use, testing, research, and analysis.
- Communicate findings to superiors, peers, customers, and consultants.
- Additional Qualifications:
- Electrician Experience: Utilize your electrical expertise to troubleshoot and repair electrical components within the plant.
- Millwright Experience: Apply your knowledge of mechanical systems to maintain and align machinery in a highly precise environment.
- SCADA Experience: Understand Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems to monitor and control plant processes.
- Skills and Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Technical or associate degree in related fields is desirable (e.g., electrical or mechanical engineering, physics, computer science, information technology).
- Experience as an electrician, millwright, or SCADA technician is advantageous.
- Hydroelectric, gas, steam powerplant or turbine experience highly desired.
- Substation transformer and switchgear experience highly desired.
- Safety Awareness:
- Adhere to plant safety procedures.
- Assist in developing or modifying safety regulations.
- Conduct safety drills and evaluate safety practices.

Compensation as follows:
Hydroelectric Plant Operator: $33.48-44.28 per hour
Hydroelectric Plant Apprentice: $25.11-$32.50 per hour
