Power Scheduler develops and maintains daily, weekly and monthly schedules for power generation, storage, and wheeling. Monitors and coordinates generation and interchange according to contracts and pooling arrangements. Being a Power Scheduler schedules all power purchases and sales with other utilities. Maintains logs documenting all relevant operating information, problems and issues. Additionally, Power Scheduler requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Power Scheduler occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Power Engineering Technician

  • Columbia Power & Water Systems is seeking an individual for a full-time, non-exempt position to join our growing organization. This position will provide plans and specifications to extend and upgrade power system facilities for new and existing customers.

    Essential Responsibilities:

    Power Engineering Technicians will understand, develop, and apply basic knowledge and application of power system distribution design. In this position, a technician will handle design and layout of new power line extensions and upgrading existing power lines, as well as the relocation of existing lines and facilities to clear area for new construction by county, city, or state; design and layout of street light and security light installations and replacements; create construction jobs, including materials lists; post and updated Engineering Department records, maps, and files from pending and completed construction jobs; assist Technical Services and Power Construction in troubleshooting, substation operation, and switching; operate the SCADA system and navigate GIS system for information; regulate and inspect solar, generators, and electric vehicle charging systems; and perform other work as assigned.

    Required Skills and Abilities:

    This position will be expected to acknowledge and adhere to all CPWS policies and procedures and attend work regularly. Technicians must perform their duties safely without endangering self, others, and the public. This position is subject to emergency call-out, so employees must abide by a residency requirement as determined by the Board (CPWS personnel subject to stand-by or after-hours call-out must reside within a CPWS service territory or Maury County) and must maintain a valid Tennessee Driver’s License.

    Power Engineering Technicians must be able to use mathematics with ease and understand principles of geometry and related sciences; solve problems using facts and existing NEC, NESC, and local codes; work on various projects and adjust to changing situations; deal with others in a courteous manner; use computer drafting tools and computer models; understand and use Microsoft Office Suites.

    Math Skills: Requires mathematical skills sufficient to add, subtract, multiple, divide, and work with exponents and electrical equations easily and effectively.

    Language Skills: Must have developed language skills to the point to be able to read and comprehend electrical codes and to effectively explain requirements for interconnection to Power Systems facilities.

    • Data: Coordination: Determines time, place, and sequence of operation(s) or action(s) to be taken based on analysis of data; executing determination of and/or reporting on events.
    • People: Speaking/ Signaling/ Writing: Talking with and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information, including giving assignments and/or directions to assistants.
    • Things: Handling: Using body members, hand tools, and/or special devices to work, move or carry objects or materials. Involves little or no latitude for judgement regarding the attainment of standards or in selecting appropriate tool, object, or material.

    Physical Requirements:

    Employees must have the ability to use eyes, hands, and fingers to operate computers and/or calculators quickly and accurately; ability to safely drive a vehicle; ability to reach, handle, feel, talk, hear, see, read, and write; ability to sit at a desk or table up to 8 hours per day; and the ability to easily walk across undeveloped, hilly, overgrown, and rocky areas. Technicians must be able to handle the environmental conditions of the job, which will include indoor work and/or outdoor work, where the job would require employees to be exposed to severe weather conditions such as storms, rain, extreme cold, and extreme heat.

    Education, experience, and qualifications include the following:

    High School Diploma or equivalent is required; Associate degree is preferred. Experience in public or private utility work is preferred.
