Description:
Assists in performing various types of work assignments supporting water and electric conservation programs within the City of Lompoc. The candidate should have a desire to learn and an interest in interacting with utility customers.
This position is part-time, with a flexible schedule of 10-18 hours/week in Lompoc. A 6-month minimum commitment is encouraged.
The intern will gain experience working with:
• Advanced Meter Infrastructure (AMI) Databases
• Utility Customer Assistance Programs
• Public Utility Procedures, Laws and Regulations

• Microsoft Access and Excel Databases
• Community-Focused Customer Service
Examples of Duties:
Come support the Conservation division to include answering customer calls, investigating water and electric high bill complaints; assist with the City's water leak detection and repair grant project with administrative (reporting) support and implementation of grant project initiatives.
• Gather, compile, tabulate, and report statistical data.
• Assist in research projects, special reports, and special projects.
• Acquire working knowledge of department practices, procedures, equipment, and organizational systems.
• Respond to inquiries and requests for assistance.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Academic status at an accredited college or university taking courses as a full-time student leading to an Environmental Studies, Civil or Electric Engineering degree, or a degree in a field related to the work which is performed.
Knowledge of:
• General Engineering Methodologies in Electrical discipline.
• Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, database familiarity, general computer skills.
• Record-keeping and organizational methodologies.
• Office equipment and systems such as phones, copiers, scanners, and email.
Ability to:
• Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
• Collect, compile, analyze, interpret, and present statistical data.
• Answer phone inquiries.
• Utilize computer programs such as MS Office and Excel.
