Precision Grinder operates precision grinding machines to assemble products and product parts to established blueprint and engineering specifications. Selects, mounts, attaches and calibrates a variety of attachments and grinding machines for grinding angles, contours, lines, and spheres on to surfaces. Being a Precision Grinder requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a manager. The Precision Grinder works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job.      Summary


    Responsibilities include utilizing state of the art CNC cylindrical grinders to grind aerospace components to final dimensional requirements. These tolerances can be as tight as .00005” and 4Ra surface finish. Other duties will include inspection of ground parts using various inspection tools such as micrometers, bore gages, and indicators and documenting inspection results. Work independently or with minimal direction from Supervisor. 


    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Work from blue prints and follow routers, corrective actions and other forms of written, verbal, and visual instruction. 
    • Utilization of CNC cylindrical grinders to achieve final dimensional requirements
    • Utilization of inspection equipment
    • Scrutinize every facet of job and report improper operation, faulty equipment, defective materials, and unusual conditions to Supervisor. 
    • Perform housekeeping chores as department requirements dictate. 
    • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor. 

    Key Roles

    • Ability to locate information / interpret work instructions and validate product conformance.
    • Effectively uses process, equipment, tooling and follows sequence of operations
    • Cares for parts in accordance with procedures (Corrosion Protection/Handling/ FOD)
    • Work to standard and contributes to continuous improvement; communicates issues to team leader in a timely manner

    Education & Experience Requirements:


    Requires the use of acquired knowledge, mechanical aptitude, high school diploma or GED, and one to three years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. 


    Required Knowledge and Skills:

    • Ability to communicate effectively with all internal and external customers in both written and oral form. 
    • Ability to perform the duties of the job applying basic mathematics such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 
    • Basic computing skills
    • Mechanical ability is necessary.

    Supervisory Responsibilities


    This job has no supervisory responsibilities. May be required to train and assist other employees.
