Grinder- Job DescriptionGrinders grind, sand, clean, or polish metal objects or parts to correct defects or to prepare surfaces for further finishing, using hand tools and power tools.Essential Functions:
- File grooved, contoured, and irregular surfaces of metal objects, such as metalworking dies and machine parts, to conform to templates, other parts, layouts, or blueprint specifications.
- Load and adjust workpieces onto equipment or work tables, using hand tools.
- Measure and mark equipment, objects, or parts to ensure grinding and polishing standards are met.
- Select files or other abrasives, according to materials, sizes and shapes of workpieces, amount of stock to be removed, finishes specified, and steps in finishing processes.
- Study blueprints or layouts to determine how to lay out workpieces or saw out templates.
- Trim, scrape, or deburr objects or parts, using chisels, scrapers, and other hand tools and equipment
- Repair and maintain equipment, objects, or parts, using hand tools.
- Sharpen cutting or grinding tools.
Desired Competencies:- Attention to detail, dependability, problem solving and strong communication skills
- Flexibility to perform overtime duties and adjust schedule when required
- Able to work within a team environment
Qualifications:- 1 year grinding experience
- Previous metal fabrication background
- Dimensional measuring and shop math competence
- Capable of using calipers, micrometers and other measuring tools
- Ability to read and understand blueprints
- Effective communication skills to discuss and understand work procedures, training, general direction and other issues with co-workers and supervisor
Work EnvironmentWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loudPhysical Demands- While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
- The position requires lifting, pushing and pulling objects that are usually less than 1 pound and sometimes up to 50 pounds or heavier.
- Finger and Manual dexterity, near vision, Arm- Hand Steadiness are requisites for this job
