Press Operator Assistant - All Widths jobs in York, PA

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Responsible for production, quality, safety, crew and maintenance on one of the most modern pieces of book printing equipment in the world, our New HP Digital Press line, including Man Roland Formerline folding and gluing section and Solema Pluton palletizer; producing folded glued book blocks.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Check files, paper and binding requirements for each job.
• Check book block to work order for proper pagination.
• Perform make ready operations, including size changes, paper changes, folding section and palletizer.
• Maintain correct fold, cut-off, cross alignment, back up and density levels for each customer's specifications. Ensure signatures are free of marks, tears or other visible defects.
• Make necessary adjustments to ensure quality customer samples and quality production book blocks. Maintain quality throughout the production run.
• Pull quality check book blocks to be stamped with operator name, date, time and block count.
• Assure proper skid tickets are used for samples and production run.
• Make sure counts are accurate to eliminate overages and underages.
• Be able to troubleshoot problems pertaining to press, raw materials, plates, ink and job information.
• (Functions listed above may be performed as many as 40 times per shift, depending on the length of run and job mix.)
• Performs approximately 90% of mechanical maintenance on the press to maintain quality production.
• Reduce average make-ready time and run waste.
• Coordinate with bindery, prepress and material control to ensure jobs are completed in a timely fashion to support bindery operations.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

· 2-3 years of related experience in Digital Printing, Web Press or Graphic Arts.

· Strong computer skills.

· Ability to read and use a ruler down to the 1/32” scale.

• Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to meet deadlines.
• Tech-savviness and a creative mindset with a passion for transforming processes into digital and automated workflows.
• Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced deadline intensive environment.
