Job Title: Cashier

Direct Supervisor(s): Head Cashier or Front End Management (FEM)

Summary of position:

Responsible for accurately, efficiently and politely checking out customer’s orders at the checkstand. This is accomplished by operating a scanner/cash register system and scale, and bagging the customer’s order in accordance with company policies and procedures.

Essential Functions / Requirements:

Providing quality customer service is an essential component of every position within Dave's Supermarket stores. Each position serves its own group of customers, which may consist of consumers, co-workers, vendors and business associates. As much care should be given to handling our internal “customers”, as the ultimate consumer.

- Provide exceptionally friendly and courteous customer service.

- Proficient operation of scanner, cash register and scale. Must maintain an average minimum of 20 rings per minute when scanning.

- Accurate handling of money, checks and other media, and be able to distinguish between various denominations of currency.

- Properly bag customer orders and place those orders from check out area into shopping carts. Orders typically weigh anywhere from five to twenty pounds and occasionally weigh up to fifty pounds.

- Maintain security and minimize losses through awareness of pricing errors, coupons, checks, food stamps, bottom of cart items, etc., and advise customer service manager or designee as necessary.

- Clean check out area, stock supplies and product, return go backs.

- Must dress according to company policy and maintain a neat, clean appearance at all times.

- Perform all other duties as assigned by management.

Experience and Requirements:

No previous experience required.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the individual must be able to remain in a stationary position for 90 percent of the time. The employee needs to occasionally move about inside the store. They are constantly operating a cash register and scanning device. The employee must position self to crouch, bend, and twist when operating the cash register and bagging grocery items with continuous reaching and simple grasping involved. They must be able to exchange accurate information with customers when interacting during check out. The employee must regularly lift, push, pull, and/or move up to 40 pounds.
