Principal Architect oversees and manages a team responsible for architectural projects. Reviews and approves architectural procedures and techniques used to complete projects. Being an Principal Architect has a diverse knowledge of architecture principles and practices, uses advanced techniques, and has responsibility for final specifications, approval of ordered materials, and overall guidance on objectives and concepts. Ensures architectural designs are completed on time and adhere to the established specifications and standards. Additionally, Principal Architect keeps up to date on the development of new architectural methods or techniques. Requires a bachelor's degree in architecture. Requires a State Architect's License. Typically reports to a director. The Principal Architect typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be an Principal Architect typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     JOB POSITION : PRINCIPAL

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    1. A master's degree.
    2. A valid New Mexico administrative license.
    3. Five years experience in public school administration and supervision
    and/or teaching.
    4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find
    appropriate and acceptable.
    5. Secondary experience preferred.

    SUPERVISOR: Superintendent of Schools, Assistant Superintendents or Director of Education or as delegated by the Superintendent

    SUPERVISES: Directly or indirectly, all personnel serving in assigned schools.

    JOB GOAL: Administers resources available to create a climate for instructional excellence and the educational development of each student.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    1. Promotes an environment/climate conducive to productive performance.
    2. Plans for and manages the resources for which he/she is responsible,
    including personnel, finances, facilities, programs, and time.
    3. Communicates accurately and effectively.
    4. Uses supervision, staff development, and performance evaluation to
    improve the program of the district.
    5. Demonstrates leadership.
    6. Demonstrates an understanding of political theory.
    7. Complies with all School Board policies and administrative regulations.
    8. Facilitates the planning and development of curriculum and instructional goals for school staff and students.
    9. Monitors and facilitates the progress of programs toward established goals.
    10. Uses supervision, staff development, and performance evaluation to improve the instructional process of the school. To do this, the principal
    follows procedures consistent with the state and local Teacher Performance Evaluation Plan.
    11. Stays current with new school programs and practices training and educational literature.
    12. Completes required reports and communications throughout the year.
    13. Participates in the hiring of new staff members.
    14. Enhances public relations with community members, parents, staff, and students.

    ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    15. Supervises all staff attached to the school.
    16. Supervises all other resource and service personnel while functioning in assigned school.
    17. Forms and meets with or appoints individuals to meet with all committees in a consistent and timely manner.
    18. Supervises extra curricular activities.
    19. Is able to demonstrate or explain the essential duties of other employees in the building including custodial, instructional, and secretarial.
    20. Responsible for the appropriate scheduling of classes.

    A. WORKING POSITIONS, POSTURES AND SKILLS

    2. Bend/Squat/Stoop/Twisting of Torso are occasional but necessary conditions of employment as needed to perform work tasks and reach work tools.

    4. Grasping, Manipulating, and other Motor Skills are continuous but necessary conditions of employment as needed to use equipment and technology.
    5. Head, Neck Movement and Small Muscle Flexibility are continuous and necessary conditions of employment as needed to do written work and handle technology.
    6. Vision and Speech are continuous and necessary conditions of employment as needed to read and communicate information and ideas.
    7. Quick reaction and response are occasional but necessary conditions of employment as needed to respond to emergencies and multiple tasks.
    8. Use of hands and fingers is frequently required to operate keyboards, mouse, telephones and other technology.
    9. Stand, sit, and reach with hands and arms frequently.
    10. Lift and/or move up to 10 pounds occasionally to use manuals and equipment.
    11. Read, interpret, speak, and write in an appropriate manner to frequently prepare, understand, and give information to
    administration, staff and the public.
    12. Ability to calculate figures and reason on a frequent basis in determining program needs and solving problems.

    B. EFFORT AND EXERTION

    1. Lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds occasionally as needed to move light furniture and equipment.
    2. Stamina and endurance continuously as needed to work an eight hour day or longer.

    C. WORK AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

    1. Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality as an essential and frequent condition of employment.
    2. Must be able to be flexible and patient to work with frequent interruptions as an essential and frequent condition of employment.
    3. Must be able to interact with the public and staff in a tactful and cooperative manner as an essential and continuous requirement of employment.
    4. Must be able to work extended work hours and travel as an essential and occasional condition of employment.

    SAFETY AND HEALTH:

    1. Knowledge of Universal Hygiene Precautions

    EQUIPMENT/MATERIAL HANDLED:

    Must know how or be willing to learn how to operate multi-media equipment to include current technology.

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

    Salary and work year to be established by the Board. Evaluated annually by the Superintendent/designee and approved by the Board as based on Administrative Competencies established by the SDE and local competencies determined by the Board each year.

    Signing Incentives:
    Level III License (Masters and 6 years of experience or more or NBCT Certification) $20,000.00
    Level II License (BA/BS and 4 years of experience or more) $15,000.00
    Level I License (BA 0 to 3 years of experience) $10,000.00

    Relocation Expenses:
    Up to 100 miles $2,500
    101 to 299 miles $3,500
    300 miles $4,500
    Relocation expenses for all certified/licensed personnel will be paid in full upon completion of
    required employment paperwork, satisfactory background check and signing of employment
    contract.

    All other incentives will be paid as follows:
    ¼ at first paycheck of the school year (August 15, 2023);
    ¼ at the beginning of the second semester (January 15, 2024);
    ¼ at the end of the contract year (June 30, 2024);
    ¼ at the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year (August 15, 2024). The incentive will be
    prorated for hires made after the official work calendar start date but prior to September 1,
    2023. Any hires made after September 1, 2023, will not be eligible to receive the signing
    incentives listed above. Failure to complete the terms of the employment contract in either of
    the two school years will result in forfeiture of the entire signing incentive. Signing incentives
    are effective March 1, 2023.

    Eligibility Requirements:
    To be eligible for the signing incentives, you must be a new employee who has not been
    employed in any certified capacity by Carlsbad Municipal Schools during the 2022-2023 school
    year.
    Administration will provide processes and administrative clarification decisions for specific
    situations that involve these incentives. This includes rules to support the incentives successful
    implementation.
