    SUMMARY:
    Manage all operations and activities of school building in accordance with district policies and procedures. Provide instructional leadership to all building staff, including curriculum planning, review and implementation, and professional development.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Responsible for understanding and integrating the Framework for Leadership into professional practices.
    • Understand and integrate the districts’ Mission, Vision, and Values into daily practices and professional responsibilities.
    • Promote building culture through the development of teams and small groups designed to effectively implement educational programs and services.
    • Interact with students in a constructive manner, encouraging each to perform at their highest level.
    • Supervise the building staff and provide meaningful feedback to ensure that the Board approved curriculum is effectively implemented.
    • Analyze assessment results (curriculum-based, PSSA, Keystone, universal screeners, Advanced Placement, etc.) to guide instructional and curricular improvements.
    • Identify and implement building goals that align with building and district initiatives.
    • Work with the administrative team, department chairpersons, teachers and special subject specialists to develop and improve the general philosophy and goals for each grade-level/department. Coordinate and evaluate the curricula and instructional programs and make appropriate recommendations to the Assistant Superintendent.
    • Oversee assigned department or grade-level to help implement Program Review recommendations.
    • Partner with other educational organizations (school district, IU, PDE, etc.) to improve school programs.
    • Complete required PDE reports, state assessment profiles, and other required reports.
    • Assign teachers to classrooms and students to classes.
    • Evaluate performance and effectiveness of professional and non-professional staff through classroom observations, regular classroom visitations and implementation of District’s approved evaluation and supervision process.
    • Oversee recordkeeping associated with student activities/clubs accounts.
    • Implement Board adopted policies for student attendance, grading, and progress reports to parents.
    • Develop the building master schedule.
    • Approve or coordinate requests for student field trips, student vacations, etc.
    • Review and approve teacher lesson plans.
    • Coordinate a program or process to recognize positive achievements of students and staff.
    • Coordinate building-level in-service activities for staff.
    • Implement Board approved curriculum.
    • Coordinate IEP and Section 504 Service Agreements at the building level; serve as LEA representative in IEP meetings.
    • Maintain positive relations with parents, PTO, school volunteers and outside agencies.
    • Provide on-going communications to parents, students and staff on school programs and activities.
    • Participate in district-wide activities, in-service programs, and committees, as needed.
    • Implement policy and procedure changes from the Board or the Department of Education at the building level.
    • Prepare the school budget; work with the central office on budgeting/purchasing.
    • Monitor budget expenditures; approve purchase orders.
    • Establish priorities for educational materials to meet the needs of students and teachers with allowable anticipated funds.
    • Work with central office personnel to coordinate human resources’ processes.
    • Maintain current information on legal/financial developments of educational legislative reforms.
    • Maintain current educational/administrative certificate.
    • Administer the student Discipline Code.
    • Coordinate placement for special needs students, in cooperation with the Director of Special Education.
    • Meet with school psychologists and/or counselors to develop appropriate special programs for students (e.g., Student Assistance Program and Pupil Services).
    • Serve as liaison between building and before/after school child care providers where appropriate.
    • Monitor and supervise Athletic Department and activities of interscholastic athletic teams to ensure adherence to and enforcement of the constitutions of the P.I.A.A. and W.P.I.A.L. and all other applicable rules and regulations of such organizations. Work with the Athletic Director to develop and implement policies, procedures and practices to ensure compliance with such rules and regulations where appropriate.
    • In cooperation with the Director of Facilities, direct building maintenance.
    • Work with the Director of Facilities to ensure school grounds are maintained and safe.
    • Lead or serve with district strategic planning teams.
    • Maintain license and meet continuing education requirements prescribed by law.
    • Perform all duties in accordance with applicable local, state, federal laws and School Board Policies.
    • Maintain knowledge of applicable laws, rules, practices and policies.
    • Regular and timely attendance.
    • Respectful and professional interactions with community, colleagues, co-workers and District staff.
    • Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent or his/her designee.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
    Direct and supervise activities of faculty, staff and students assigned to the school. Also responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the school and personnel. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Board policy and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, selection and orientation of staff; planning assigning, and directing work; evaluating performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
    Master’s degree or higher in field of educational administration; Instructional II certificate and five years successful teaching experience; knowledge of secondary program philosophy; additional training or experiences in conflict resolution, planning; secondary group facilitation techniques.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, CLEARANCES
    Valid and active administrative certificate issued by Pennsylvania Department of Education endorsed for Secondary Principal or Principal K-12; child abuse and federal and state criminal record clearances.

    CONFIDENTIALITY
    Due to the highly sensitive nature of this position and access to both personnel and financial records, the highest degree of confidentiality and ethical behavior is required at all times. Knowledge of and compliance with federal and state laws and board policies relating to confidentiality of student educational records and confidential employee information required.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS
    Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from teachers, administrators, staff, students, parents and residents.

    COMPUTER SKILLS
    Proficient with both PC and MAC-based personal computer programs. Proficient with or ability to obtain proficiency with student information system software and databases.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
    Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

    REASONING ABILITY
    Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of variables in often stressful situations.

    OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES
    Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in the areas of secondary education and special education. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
