Principal Architect oversees and manages a team responsible for architectural projects. Reviews and approves architectural procedures and techniques used to complete projects. Being an Principal Architect has a diverse knowledge of architecture principles and practices, uses advanced techniques, and has responsibility for final specifications, approval of ordered materials, and overall guidance on objectives and concepts. Ensures architectural designs are completed on time and adhere to the established specifications and standards. Additionally, Principal Architect keeps up to date on the development of new architectural methods or techniques. Requires a bachelor's degree in architecture. Requires a State Architect's License. Typically reports to a director. The Principal Architect typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be an Principal Architect typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     Position Title: Principal

    Department: Executive Team

    Reports To: Executive Director

    Salary Range: $58,000 to $85,000 annually

    Position Type: Exempt

    Schedule: Extended School Year (3 days after teachers leave and 7 days before teachers return)

    Summary:

    The K-12 Principal will focus almost exclusively on the education and long-term success of PSAS’ students in the Classical education model, which will require the Principal to work with teachers and students daily and be intimately involved in the success of both. The Principal will work closely with and report directly to the Executive Director. The Principal will be responsible for all areas including instruction, curriculum, special education, pupil services, and implementation of educational technology, attendance, and school safety.  This person will be required to oversee all extra-curricular activities including off-premise events.  The Principal is required to meet with grade level/content teams regularly for guidance and goal setting.  This position is responsible for monitoring and enforcing building safety and security; assisting in planning and implementing student programs; and assisting in the creation and implementation of the school improvement plan.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

     

    Required Minimums:

    • Degree in education, and/or educational administration.
    • Minimum of 7 years as a full-time classroom teacher.
    • Three years of experience as a lead teacher and/or supervisory position.
    • Proven record in launching new ventures or major initiatives.

     

    PREFERRED:

    • Master’s in Educational Administration from an accredited college or university.
    • Valid Colorado principal license or eligible for same at time duties are assumed.
    • Experience with increasing student achievement and engagement in learning.
    • Three or more years as an assistant principal or another administrative capacity in a K-12 setting. 
    • Experience in a Classical Academy Model school.
    • Demonstrated ability in excellent interpersonal relations and oral and written communication skills with strong decision making, analytical and organizational skills. 
    • Experience in dealing with students and staff with diverse needs at various levels.
    • Experience developing, implementing, and monitoring attendance policies and procedures.
    • Experience in assisting with program planning and implementation for recipient groups (e.g., gifted and talented, ELL, non-categorical, special education, at-risk, etc.).
    • Experience in the development and implementation of the school improvement plan, including staff development. 
    • Experience assisting in implementing and gathering student data. 
    • Experience working in a charter school.
    • Experience and knowledge of evaluating instructors and other school staff.

    Supervisory Responsibilities 

    • Review, evaluate, and supervise all assigned personnel.
    • Responsible for the overall direction and coordination of PSAS’ educational programs.
    • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the school’s policies and all applicable laws.
    • Participate in developing and implementing cross-training strategies for PSAS.
    • Responsible for assigned budgets.

    Language Skills

    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, education codes, legislation, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
    • Ability to write routine and complex reports as well as understandable correspondence.
    • Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees, students, parents, outside organizations, and the PSAS board.

    Reasoning Ability

    • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
    • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

     

    Computer Skills

    • To perform this job successfully, an individual should be computer literate, proficient in Word, Excel, and Internet software.

     

    Essential Physical Responsibilities

    • Work at a desk, conference table, or in various meeting configurations.
    • Have the ability to circulate the school or instructional environment.
    • Hear and understand speech with/without aides at normal levels.
    • Be able to see with/without aides close up, at a distance, and have depth perception.
    • Communicate with others and be clearly understood in normal conversations.

    • Carry up to 25 pounds.
