The job
The Twelfth Judicial Circuit has an opening for an Official Court Reporter I to be based in Manatee County. The essential function of the position is to stenographically report, voice write, or electronically record court proceedings and create an accurate and verbatim transcript of the proceedings. The Court Reporter I edits and proofreads transcripts; verifies the correct spelling of names, places, medical, scientific and technological terms; and researches and confirms case law cited in court. The Court Reporter I prints and binds completed transcripts when needed, e-files and emails PDFs of transcripts, archives daily files and transcript files, and maintains an accurate log of each day’s proceedings. The Court Reporter I stays abreast of the latest technological advances in the field and new terminology. This position may be required to sit in one position for long periods of time. The Court Reporter I will travel to other courthouses within the circuit as required. The position works under general supervision independently developing work methods and sequences. This position requires basic knowledge of the legal system, court processes and procedures.

Special Qualifications

Certificate of completion from an NCRA (National Court Reporters Association)-approved school; certificate of completion from an NVRA (National Verbatim Reporters Association)-approved school; or CET (Certified Electronic Transcriber) or CER (Certified Electronic Reporter) from AAERT (American Association for Electronic Reporters and Transcribers) is preferred.

Education

Associate's degree or the equivalent of two years of college or vocational school education in computer operations, medical/legal terminology, court reporting, paralegal or closely related field. Two years of related experience is preferred. Additional relevant experience may substitute for the recommended educational level on a year-for-year basis.
