Process Engineer develops and optimizes continuous production and manufacturing processes to achieve the output, quality, and cost goals of the organization. Collects production data and applies standard scientific and statistical methods to analyze, document, and diagram production processes. Being a Process Engineer identifies process bottlenecks and devises solutions to resolve. Recommends changes or upgrades to equipment, work methods, or other aspects of the process to improve efficiency and utilization of resources including labor, energy and raw materials. Additionally, Process Engineer requires a bachelor's degree of engineering. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Process Engineer works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. Work is closely managed. To be a Process Engineer typically requires 0-2 years of related experience. This job class includes Process Engineers progressing from ‘learners’ (requiring close mentoring and guidance from more senior Process Engineering staff) to ‘do-ers’ (possessing the competencies to complete most Process Engineering assignments with only occasional guidance from others). Typical assignments are in support of other process engineers on a variety of projects in order to develop process engineering judgement in preparation for progressively more responsible assignments.
Language Ability:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of managers, client or employees of organization.
Math Ability:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of algebra, geometry, and calculus through differential equations. Understanding of probability and statistics with the ability to apply to risk and consequence evaluations.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral, diagram or schedule form.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of MS Word word processing software; MS Excel spreadsheet software; MS Teams; the MS Office software suite: and related design and analysis software.
