FCDI is recruiting for a Process Engineer to support continued growth and on-going development projects within the Process Development team located in Madison, WI. The team works to develop and tech transfer manufacturing processes for both the Therapeutics (TX) and Discovery Research (DR) manufacturing teams. Products manufactured by these teams include cell therapy and research material for ocular, cardiac, oncological, and neurological diseases.
We are looking for a self-motivated and detail-oriented individual who can contribute to our efforts to scale-out, scale-up, optimize, and characterize upstream and downstream bio-processes for pluripotent stem cell expansion and directed differentiation of pluripotent cells to terminally differentiated cells. Qualified individuals should be inspired to execute important experiments that support ongoing efforts to improve and standardize our processes through data-driven decision making.
In this hands-on laboratory role you will provide technical support under the supervision of the Process Development manager to design and execute experiments involving bioreactors, volume reduction technologies, and fill/finish operations and to write protocols and reports that contribute to the tech transfer of bio-processes to manufacturing.

Qualifications/Requirements
PhD degree in chemical or bioengineering, chemistry, biology, biochemistry, immunology or a closely related scientific field with some relevant experience in cell culturing and bioprocessing, or a Master’s degree plus two to five years relevant experience or a Bachelor’s degree with five to seven years of experience.
Experience with cell culture, medium to large format (larger 2D flasks to bioreactor).
Demonstrated capability with cell culture, flow cytometry, and/or molecular biology methods. Stem cell culture experience and/or flow cytometry experience is extremely desirable.
Self-motivated with a sound work ethic, initiative, the ability to multi-task, intellectual curiosity, and a desire to acquire new technical skills.
Flexibility to change project objectives quickly and enthusiastically.
Proficient in written and oral communication, as well as the ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
Ability to use Microsoft Excel, Word and Power Point and prepare and present short presentations to internal groups.
Ability to work some evening and/or weekend work is required.
Able to work with hazardous materials (i.e. chemicals, electrical equipment and human tissue) without endangering oneself or others.
Able to wear standard laboratory PPE.
Desired Qualifications/Requirements
Experience with biologics manufacturing processes, process development, and selecting appropriate equipment and materials.
Experience with statistical Design of Experiments and/or Quality by Design
Experience with biotechnology Quality Management Systems and other regulatory requirements.
