    Job Summary:

    The Structural Engineering Director will lead the structures discipline nationally for the organization. In this position, you will lead multiple engineering managers in designing, reviewing, and winning new structures work. The job location is flexible in the U.S. but will require travel as needed to lead the structures discipline. This is a key leadership position at RailPros that will interface with senior managers throughout the nation.  Your primary responsibilities are to provide technical leadership, develop new business, and ensure the adherence and implementation of the RailPros Quality Program.

     

    You will provide leadership and effective management of your discipline, identify, and develop business opportunities within your discipline, identify and attend relevant regional industry events and conferences, identify opportunities to present at national conferences, coordinate resource needs, staff forecasting, hiring, employee mentoring and engagement, and identify internal and external training opportunities to foster continuous improvement. You will also play a significant role in monitoring the financial performance of client and project portfolios. As the National Structural Engineering Director, you will play a crucial role in ensuring quality, growth, and financial success within your discipline. Your leadership, mentoring, and strategic oversight will drive innovation, enhance client relationships, and position RailPros as an industry leader.

     

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Provide strong leadership and effective management of the structural engineering discipline.
    • Foster positive client relations and effective teaming among staff and departments
    • Build a professional network and strengthen RailPros presence within the industry
    • Develop new business opportunities and lead proposal efforts for structures work
    • Lead and perform structures project work
    • Identify opportunities to present at national conferences to showcase RailPros expertise
    • Lead implementation of Quality Program in the structures discipline
    • Assess the resource requirements for projects and ensure the allocation of the right talent.
    • Collaborate with other managers to optimize resource allocation across disciplines
    • Forecast staffing needs and oversee the hiring process
    • Provide mentoring and career development opportunities for staff
    • Promote employee engagement and ensure a positive work environment
    • Facilitate internal and external training opportunities to enhance the skills and knowledge of your team.
    • Provide recommendations for raises and bonuses for your team
    • Implement strategies to manage indirect costs effectively
    • Other duties as assigned or required to meet the business needs

    Qualifications:


    Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

    • Proficiency with electronic communication including e-mail and text, as well as standard office applications (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite)
    • Possess exceptional oral and written communication skills
    • Negotiate critical and controversial issues with top-level engineers and officers of other organizations and companies
    • Ability to conduct presentations and participate in media interviews
    • Represent his or her organization at important functions or conferences, including media interviews as required

     

    Required Education and Experience:

    • Professional Engineer (PE) license required
    • Bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering from an ABET/EAC accredited program
    • 20 years prior structural engineering experience required, including 5 years in a management role
    • 10 years railroad and transit structures design experience including accelerated bridge construction
    • In-depth knowledge of industry standards and guidelines
    • Established relationships with railroad clients including transit agencies either locally or nationally
    • Experience leading and developing proposals
    • Outstanding business development skills

     

    Preferred Education and Experience:

    • Master’s Degree or equivalent
    • Engaged in life-long learning to maintain knowledge of contemporary issues
    • Experience with Salesforce
    • Experience assisting with Client Account Plans, identifying opportunities, etc.

     

    Additional Qualifications, Certifications, etc.:

    • Member of professional practice organization(s), recognized expert on national activity or spokesperson for the profession
