  • Duties

    The Engineering Technician performs the duties of a Contracting Officers Representative (COR), monitoring, inspecting and accepting contract deliverables for several construction contracts simultaneously on the TRACEN property.

    Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team.

    Typical work assignments include:

    • Contracting over a broad scope of diverse construction and maintenance projects.
    • Collecting of field data for future projects, investigations and surveys, preparing cost estimates, determining local methods and materials needed for cost effective designs, and drafting a statement of work for new projects.

    Incumbent must complete qualifications to perform as a Contracting Officers Representative (COR) within 6-months of being hired.

    Qualifications

    GS-9 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-8 level.

    Specialized experience is:

    • Determining the constructability and ensuring compliance with the design engineer's requirements;
    • Reviewing contracts to determine constructability, scheduling and compatibility between a wide-variety of trades;
    • Managing and maintaining the contractor's quality of control program, work schedules, inspections, etc.;
    • Collecting field data for projects, investigations and surveys, preparing cost estimates, determining local methods and materials needed for cost effective designs, and
    • Drafting a statement of work for new projects.

    Two full years of graduate education

    a Master's Degree meets the requirements for GS-9

    • Knowledge of construction administration practices and techniques to ensure proper administration procedures are followed in the initiation of contracts, contacts modifications, inspection reporting and all correspondence with contractor personnel.
    • Ability to coordinate operations of various contractors, the government, and provide necessary information to government and public officials.
    • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
