Position Summary:
The Deli Clerk is responsible for assisting customers of Niagara Produce by providing goods and services from the Deli department. Deli Clerks are also responsible for providing excellent customer service, assisting customers in their shopping experience by providing recommendations to customers, maintaining a friendly demeanor, and assisting in other clerk - related areas.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide customer service by greeting and assisting customers, and responding to customer inquiries and complaints. Prepare a variety of foods, such as meats, food trays and salads, according to customers' orders or supervisors' instructions, following approved procedures. Slice, wash, peel, cut, and handle various foods, such as meats, cheese, fruits and vegetables, to prepare for cooking or serving. Clean and sanitize work areas, equipment, utensils, dishes, or silverware. Store food in designated containers and storage areas to prevent spoilage. Place food trays over food warmers for immediate service, or store them in refrigerated storagecabinets.Portion and wrap the food for service to customers. Weigh or measure goods and ingredients for sale and label with appropriate prices. Mix ingredients for green salads, molded fruit salads, vegetable salads, and pasta salads,seafood salads. Receive and store food supplies, equipment, and utensils in refrigerators, cupboards, and other storage areas. Stock case with fresh goods. Check dates on perishable items and move older goods to front or reduce price with permission from supervisor. Follow opening and closing procedures.Abide by all health & safety regulations including wearing gloves and hair net when appropriate; carefully handling sharp objects. Perform any other duty as requested by your supervisor.
Qualifications:
Must be at least 18 years old. Excellent interpersonal/human relations skills. Good judgment and decision making abilities. Ability to be flexible with job duties; comfortable with change. Organizational skills.
Physical Requirements: Standing for prolonged periods of time. Performing physical activities that require considerable use of hands and preparing deli goods and packaging/bagging purchased goods. Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, manipulating, and moving goods. The ability to quickly move hands, one hand together with one arm, or two hands grasp, manipulate, and arranging objects, such as deli products to be Displayed. Ability to lift up to 25lbs, occasionally up to 50lbs.
