Spokane Produce, Inc. is seeking a Assistant Fleet Manager. The Assistant Fleet Manager will work closely with the company drivers and other department management to deliver the highest possible level of service to our internal and external customers. The successful candidate will be adept at routing and scheduling with an emphasis on streamlining service. This position will also be responsible for meeting regularly with drivers, dispatchers, maintenance, sales and owner to discuss ways to meet or exceed revenue goals. Duties include but are not limited to: responsible for the administration and management of all transactions associated with drivers in a multi-state trucking fleet and distribution operation: develop and maintain fleet schedules, manage daily routing and route development, administer safety and job-related training for Fleet Management, manage talent acquisition, performance management and retention for the department. May be required to assume the duties of a Route Delivery Driver, if needed. This position is frequently on-call
SUPERVISORY DUTIES: Yes
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
• Help develop and implement safety policies and procedures as well as help manage the Safety program for the transportation department
• Help develop and implement formalized training programs and assist in conducting new hire and compliance training
• Serve as a back-up ROUTE DELIVERY DRIVER for Fleet Management as needed
• Help ensure compliance with OSHA and DOT regulations
• Assist with maintaining manual and electronic documents, manage drug screening program for DOT, oversee licensing for drivers and equipment
• Monitor and maintain quality service for customer, retail and food service accounts
• Enforce safety practices and procedures to ensure employees receive appropriate safety training
• Conduct driver ride-along for training and evaluation purposes
• Assist with dispatch, routing and truck scheduling: schedule drivers, arrange routes in collaboration with the Sales Department; allocate vehicles and backhauls as needed
• Assist with the development, implementation and maintenance information for all laws, regulations and taxes associated with multi-state trucking operation
• Assist with drivers licensing compliance
• Assist with reviewing route reports daily and making needed adjustments to streamline operations
• Ensure compliance with OSHA and DOT regulations
• Assist with route development and support sales staff for new routes or review potential of combining routes
• Assist with and conduct bi-annual Driver meetings
• Responsible for assisting with equipment management
• Provide driver training and participate in driver performance management
• Help manage DOD contracts including but not limited to: routing, securing passes and completing reviews of driver backgrounds
• Assist with talent acquisition of drivers including testing
• Cross train as needed
• Work with sales, buyers, and dispatch to facilitate the flow of information in a timely manner to facilitate all needed job functions
• Assist as needed to ensure all base routes are covered and needs are met on a daily basis
• Maintain and improve driver files
• Assist with driver safety program and manual (safety procedures, backing, unloading, distractions, winter driving, lane changes, proper spacing, parking, etc.)
• Assist with mechanical problems and develop procedures for handling these calls
• Must be able to assume the truck delivery driver responsibilities for an open route, if necessary
• Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Trucking experience, including knowledge of current IFTA guidelines and tax laws
• Working knowledge of current DOT and FMCSA regulations
• High school diploma or GED
• 3 years of experience in trucking administration
• Class A CDL license and clean driving record
• Current medical card
• Knowledge of ELD software programs preferred
• Knowledge of Qualcomm a plus
• Previous fleet management experience preferred
• Must be able to work independently or as a team when required, and provide strong problem-solving abilities
• Good communication skills and ability to multi-task
• Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, and/or crouching. Generally the job requires an equal combination of sitting, standing, and walking during the day. The job is performed in the office, warehouse and shop. Noise level is moderate to high, depending on desk placement and time of year.
