    Flatiron Crane Operating Company is seeking an experienced and driven Engineering Leader for the Northeast and Southwest regions of the business. The Engineering Manager will lead and will manage our engineering teams within those regions. Additionally, the Engineering Manager will work closely with the Director of Engineering to ensure the successful execution of projects, adherence to safety standards, and the continuous improvement of engineering processes. This role requires a strategic thinker who can balance operational efficiency with long-term growth initiatives.

    Position Description

    People Leadership- Make the Team Better

    • Delivers and drives organizational safety initiatives for new programs and compliance with the Flatiron requirements and any site requirement for compliance.
    • Provide strong leadership and mentorship to engineering teams in the assigned regions.
    • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and safety within the regional engineering department.
    • Recruit, train, and develop engineering talent to ensure a high-performing team.
    • Maintains and drives appropriate staffing levels by actively requisitioning candidates, screening applicants, and hiring departmental roles within the Flatiron recruiting procedure.
    • Onboards, recommends training, drives improved engagement, and makes performance recommendations of engineers and support staff.
    • Makes recommendations, researches, and develops plans to develop the engineering staff for individual career growth.
    • Drives performance management including reviews and behavior modifications with the assistance of the Director of Engineering, Branch Manager, and HR
    • Enforce Flatiron policy, procedure, and best practice.
    • Make recommendations on departmental leadership and reporting structure.
    • Provides leadership to Engineering teams in accordance with Flatiron Core Values, leading with emotional intelligence and critical analysis.

    • Develop alignment of branch procedural engineering roles and duties

    • Execute prioritized initiatives as assigned by the Director of Engineering.
    • Serve as Engineering subject matter expert for Engineering teams within the regions
    • Manage budgets and allocate staff and resources within the regions in the most effective and efficient manner in accordance with Flatiron procedure
    • Continuous Improvement to drive productivity

    Risk Management

    • Manage risk during the estimation, design, documentation, and quality control processes within the regional department.

    Project Engineering & Design

    • Estimate complex projects, ensuring that all projects adhere to the overall quality of Flatiron Standards
    • Lead engineering team & assign resources to tasks and projects. Communicate assignment to Salesperson, regional presidents & branch managers.
    • Develop designs to meet customer requirements; Develop most cost-effective designs.
    • Vendor and part selection
    • Cost as estimated = cost as designed = cost as installed

    Project Management

    • Planning – align customer, technicians, subcons, parts/materials, and rental equipment procedure for all jobs.
    • Develop and maintain performance metrics for the region which mirror Flatiron Core engineering values.
    • Responsible for performance vs schedule, cost, quality
    • Job Closeout

    Product Design

    • Develop standard, starting point/templated designs (where applicable)
    • Drive design for manufacturability/installation
