Product Development Director plans and directs the resources and processes required to implement the vision and strategy for new product development and product lifecycle management of existing products. Establishes research and concept development projects and capabilities to innovate new products, product enhancements, and product redesign. Being a Product Development Director conducts market analysis and interacts with customers and prospects to identify new markets, articulate the value proposition, define requirements, and lead the development of a product roadmap. Oversees new product development and collaboration with internal stakeholders, including marketing, sales, and manufacturing, to ensure that new and existing products support the organization's financial goals. Additionally, Product Development Director develops teams with the knowledge and expertise to fulfill product development objectives. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to senior management. The Product Development Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Product Development Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     Essential Function

    The Director of Product Development will be responsible for bringing products/brands to market that drive growth and profitability for a portfolio of brands.  Must be keenly aware of applicable trends and demand the highest quality standards and innovations in all new products. Must be able to identify, develop, and/or evaluate comprehensive strategy for assigned brands.  Will lead and oversee the product development cycle from new product initiation to completion of production for all new product launches and revisions. Will create comprehensive action plans for product concepts, design, promotion, product launch strategies and execution and collaborate with cross functional teams: Sales Ops, Marketing, Merchandising, etc.  Will bring knowledge of best practices and will manage necessary restructuring of internal processes related to new product development.  This is a hybrid role, reporting into the corporate office in Denton TX on Tuesdays and Weds of each week.

    Primary Duties

    • Lead and oversee the product development cycle from new product initiation to completion of production for all new product launches and revisions. Create comprehensive action plans for product concepts, design, promotion, product launch strategies and execution.   Approximately 50 – 75 products launched annually.
    • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure successful launch and promotional requirements are met to achieve the expected level of success for all new brands and products.  
    • Consistently seek opportunities for innovative/incremental newness.  
    • Recruit, train, motivate, retain and direct assigned staff effectively and within budget to accomplish departmental and organizational objectives.
    • Ensure compliance with the company’s ethics and EEO policies both personally and within the organization managed.

     

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Bachelor’s Degree required or relevant work experience
    • At least 5-7 years of hands-on beauty product development experience in a consumer packaged goods industry, preferably in the beauty industry
    • Managerial experience of at least 3-5 years.
    • Strong interest in beauty and a keen awareness of trends
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment
    • Passionate and able to demonstrate entrepreneurship
    • Excellent presentation and communication skills
    • Bachelor's Degree required, MBA preferred
    • Ability to take projects from creative inception to final implementation.

    Working Conditions /Physical Requirements

    The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, retail stores, and residences or commercial vehicles, e.g., use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals, etc. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.

    The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, files, books, small parts; using a keyboard, driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
