Product Development Director plans and directs the resources and processes required to implement the vision and strategy for new product development and product lifecycle management of existing products. Establishes research and concept development projects and capabilities to innovate new products, product enhancements, and product redesign. Being a Product Development Director conducts market analysis and interacts with customers and prospects to identify new markets, articulate the value proposition, define requirements, and lead the development of a product roadmap. Oversees new product development and collaboration with internal stakeholders, including marketing, sales, and manufacturing, to ensure that new and existing products support the organization's financial goals. Additionally, Product Development Director develops teams with the knowledge and expertise to fulfill product development objectives. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to senior management. The Product Development Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Product Development Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     Job Purpose

    Responsible for developing new and existing customers to bring rapid growth to SCI Technology, Inc. (SCI), and specifically taking the Tactical Systems business segment to the next level of success. The position requires use of more business development and management skills than technical skills, although technical knowledge is highly desirable. Position involves extensive interaction with customers, company management, business development staff, in-house engineering, finance, contracts and proposal development teams that are focused on capturing new or existing business with customers. Must be able to plan and direct multiple capture efforts, while monitoring budget/spending.

    Identify, target, qualify, and win new business with new and existing customers in order to meet and exceed revenue and margin objectives. Identify potential customers and analyze the customers’ business, mission, strategy, and operations in order to create and execute a winning strategy. The individual is highly adept at discerning the fit and specific value-add that SCI brings, and effectively interacts and creates relationships at the highest levels within customer organizations. She/he engages appropriate resources from cross-functional teams to ensure successful business execution, participates in team calls, proposal development, pricing presentations, consultative selling techniques, and order closing strategies. The person will also manage sales, budget, and forecast information used in the overall management of the company.

    Nature of Duties/Responsibilities

    This is a hybrid role that includes portfolio/product planning for the Tactical, BAircraft, and New Technology Product portfolio including product and business development of new products, their inter-relationships with existing products, and developing market growth scenarios through roadmap planning and interactions with new/existing customers for SCI products.  The position will focus on all aspects of increased revenue and margin growth for the SCI Technology, Inc. Products Portfolio. This position is designed so that a highly experienced product manager can use interactions with customers to help plan the product portfolio and place new product offerings into the roadmaps while developing new business for that SCI Portfolio.  This position requires skills in Product Management, Business Development, and Management including familiarity with researching and marketing technical Products. This Position involves extensive interaction with customers, the product management team, company management, business development staff, in-house engineering, finance, contracts and proposal development teams that are focused on capturing new or existing business with customers. Must be able to plan and direct multiple product programs and capture efforts, while monitoring budget/spending.

    Specifically, this position would be responsible for:

    • Meeting Business Development and Sales Goals for the Assigned Portfolio
      • Develop C-level relationships with key Aerospace & Defense Industry executives, Government and Congressional personnel.
      • Establish strategic business development initiatives, both program and M&A opportunities
      • Strong business acumen developed through a combination of education and experience.
      • Should be able to demonstrate relationship-building skills and be comfortable interacting with professionals at all organizational levels.
      • Solid negotiation skills are required for interaction with both customers and internal stakeholders.
      • Demonstrate communication, presentation, and business writing skills
      • Proficiency with MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
    • Identifying new product/portfolio opportunities which leverage current SCI products or skill sets
      • Understanding the U.S. DoD and industry existing and emerging requirements and trends
      • Mining data from U.S. Government solicitations and public domain websites
      • Meeting with existing and prospective customers at SCI and/or their facilities
      • Analyzing SCI’s products’ competitors for strengths & weaknesses and new opportunities
    • Responding to requirements for new product/portfolio solutions which align with SCI’s capabilities
      • Drafting RFI / RFP responses to U.S. Government or Industry solicitations
      • Drafting white papers to demonstrate SCI’s competence in new product/portfolio areas
      • Communicating SCI’s competence in new product/portfolio areas to target customers
    • Supporting the identification and measurement of SCI’s TAM/SAM/SOM/Market Share
      • Developing business bases for new & existing product/portfolio opportunities
      • Supporting the maintenance of SCI’s products’ opportunity funnel/pipeline
    • Supporting the development & management of SCI’s new product/portfolio solutions
    • Supporting Product Management team on new product development
      • Supporting prioritization of new & existing product development across the portfolio
      • Supporting the management of product partnerships

    This position will be Reporting to the Vice President, Product Management for SCI. The person selected for this role will have responsibility to direct the Product Management team, develop and maintain business relationships with customers, cultivate relationships that establish SCI consultative approach, and promote a total solution sale to our customers. 

    To be considered for this position, a candidate will possess and demonstrate, the following education, skills, experience, and characteristics

    • Due to our U.S. Government contracts, the candidate must be a U.S. citizen
    • Ability to Apply and Receive a Security Clearance
    • Minimum 12 years experience in Product and/or Program Management 
    • Bachelor’s degree or higher
    • Required hands-on business development background with a minimum of 12 years of proven business development experience in the Defense & Aerospace industry
    • Proven ability to lead and direct the Product Management Team
    • Demonstrate relationship-building skills and be comfortable interacting with professionals at all organizational levels
    • Solid negotiation skills are required for interaction with both customers and internal stakeholders
    • Superior communication, presentation and business writing skills
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office and familiar with capable of working with Database tools
    • Must be highly motivated, self-driven, and eager to learn new technologies
    • Ability & willing to travel for customer meetings and engagements
    • A technical background is desired, with knowledge of electronic design, development, and manufacturing a plus
