Product Development Director plans and directs the resources and processes required to implement the vision and strategy for new product development and product lifecycle management of existing products. Establishes research and concept development projects and capabilities to innovate new products, product enhancements, and product redesign. Being a Product Development Director conducts market analysis and interacts with customers and prospects to identify new markets, articulate the value proposition, define requirements, and lead the development of a product roadmap. Oversees new product development and collaboration with internal stakeholders, including marketing, sales, and manufacturing, to ensure that new and existing products support the organization's financial goals. Additionally, Product Development Director develops teams with the knowledge and expertise to fulfill product development objectives. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to senior management. The Product Development Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Product Development Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides census development in assigned markets through direct sales contacts with physicians, physician groups and physician organizations, key hospital staff, managed care organizations, appropriate external and internal case managers, and any other potential referral sources. Accountable for census performance in assigned area. May assist with the management of area sales staff as assigned.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Prefer a BA or BS (in a health-related field preferred)
    • Preferred two (2) years of healthcare sales experience
    • If RN/LPN must have a current license to practice profession in state
    • Must have valid driver’s license and proof of insurance; reliable source of transportation
    • Ability to understand, remember and carry out verbal and/or written instructions in English
    • Ability to speak clearly and hear well enough to communicate with sources
    • Ability to complete assignments while having constant interruptions
    • Must be capable of performing the Essential Functions of this job, with or without reasonable accommodation
    • Must be able to travel through the assigned area, supporting business development functions at the community level

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Maximizes the number of referrals from key physicians, physician organizations, hospital accounts, managed care organizations and other local market sources to meet facilities goals
    • Coordinates and maintains up-to-date information on market and competitors including pricing, census information, product information, and sales strategies
    • Monitors census and payer mix trends. Ensures timely completion of community referral, admissions, and census tracking and trending information. In coordination with the Administrator, analyzes tracking and trending data and develops and implements strategies to meet census and mix goals
    • Identifies census challenges and barriers. Assist in developing and implementing strategies to overcome census challenges and barriers. Provides direct sales activity as required
    • Identifies customer and market needs. Develops and implements plans to satisfy identified needs
    • Assists with hiring, training, evaluating performance, and educating sales staff as assigned
    • Informs all referral sources of the admissions and approval process
    • Coordinates and conducts admissions process and customer service training for community and staff
    • Assists community with new business development. Expands and grows referral source and customer base ensuring continual referral growth
    • Communicates effectively with Administrators, Regional Directors of Operations, VP of Business Development, and Chief Strategy Officer
    • Compiles information on the local market including referral sources, competitors, and market trends
    • Prepare, update and follow quarterly marketing plans
    • Prepares and submits weekly schedule, summary of activity, achievements, goals, and related outcomes as requested
    • Establishes a rapport with Medical Directors within assigned community and works with them to implement “key physician” marketing and educational programs
    • Maintains daily community census, snapshot report, and other reports as assigned.
    • Circulates information to appropriate parties in the time frame needed
    • Completes special projects and assignments as required. Provides backup support and handles other functional roles and responsibilities, as required, to ensure that operational needs are met
    • Meet or exceed weekly, monthly, and quarterly sales call goals as assigned by Administrator/Vice President of Business Development
    • Develops and maintains working knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, Managed Care, and private pay criteria for admission
    • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of all area hospitals' discharge and referral procedures
    • Uses tactful, appropriate communication in sensitive and emotional situations.
    • Promotes positive public relations with patients, residents, family members, and guests
    • Use appropriate workplace behavior and adhere to the dress code at all times
    • Other duties as assigned

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Have the ability to safely perform movements such as pushing, pulling, lifting, bending, kneeling, reaching and lifting up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodations
