Summary
Jones Von Drehle has established a reputation for excellence in North Carolina Wine through careful cultivation of grapes and meticulous execution of winemaking. We are seeking the newest member of our wine growing team. This person will be critical to grape growing and winemaking operations. We are open to those who specialize in either cellar operations or vineyard operations.
Responsibilities
Cellar tasks may include operating crush equipment (de-stemmer and press), forklift operation, punchdowns/punchovers, racking, topping barrels, bottling and cleaning. The right candidate may be tasked with assisting with lab analysis of juice/wine.
Vineyard tasks may include pruning, raking, shoot thinning, shoot positioning, leaf pulling,fruit thinning and all harvest operations. You may also be asked to assist in landscaping duties such as weed eating, mowing and general beautification of the property.
For the right candidate we would entrust in them the maintanence and operation of tractors and vineyard implements such as hedgers, tillers, fertilizers, sprayers and mowers.
We have several concerts, wine dinners and special events throughout the year that will require you to work weekends occasionally. These events could involve you helping to prepare for the events, interacting with customers and helping to clean up after.
Preferred qualifications
At least two years of experience in a winery and/or vineyard.
A motivated individual with an interest in the quality of the finished wine product. Diligence and work ethic are vital to the success of grape growing and winemaking.
An eagerness to grow and learn new skills.
Experience in the operation and maintenance of heavy equipment including tractors is a plus.
A degree in a related field (Fermentation science, enology, chemistry, biology, agriculture, horticulture) is a plus.
Previous experience in a production setting or farm is a plus.
Bi-lingual(Spanish/English) is a big plus.
Requirements
Must be 21 years of age.
Must be able to lift 55 lbs.
Must be able to stand on their feet for long periods of time.
Must be able to climb cat walks/ladders and walk through rocky terrain in vineyard.
Must be able to work in a wet and cold environment.
